Vítězslava Kaprálová, 1915-1940 (Czech composer and conductor)

* Vítězslava Kaprálová conducted the Czech Philharmonic in 1937 and a year later the BBC Symphony Orchestra in her composition "Military Sinfonietta," to much critical acclaim. Her husband was the Czech writer Jiří Mucha, whom she married two months before she died. Despite her untimely death, allegedly from miliary tuberculosis, in Montpellier, France at the age of 25, Kaprálová created an impressive body of work. There is no doubt that, had she lived, she would have become one of the most important women composers in Europe.

Adolf Hitler, 1889-1945 (birth records published online)

* Adolf Hitler's birth records have been published on the Braunau History website. These records include the entry in the parish/rectory book stating his birth on 20 April 1889 at "6½ Abends" (6:30 in the evening) and baptism on 22 April at "3¼" (3:15pm), and his birth announcement. Previously his data was rated AA (quoted birth records) but we now have "AA" birth records in hand.

Rue McClanahan, 1934–2010 (American actress, comedian, author, fashion designer)

* Rue McClanahan's birth certificate has been published on the official website of her estate, showing the time of birth recorded as 7pm and her name as "Eddi-Rue McClanahan." Previously, Frank Clifford quoted a written form filled in by her, with a time of 7:30pm from her mother's memory.

The time of 7pm puts Neptune and the Moon very close to the Ascendant and MC respectively. McClanahan won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1987 for her role as Blanche Devereaux on The Golden Girls (1985–1992).

Baccio Bandinelli (Italian Renaissance sculptor, draughtsman and painter)

* Pluto and its sign Scorpio are associated with intense jealousy. Baccio Bandinelli had Pluto in Scorpio opposite his Ascendant (smack-bang on his 7th cusp) ruling the Sun in the last degree of Scorpio (also in the 7th). Notorious for his envy (of other artists), he obsessively imitated the works of Michelangelo whom he saw as a rival, and he tried to sabotage Benvenuto Cellini's career. Bandinelli's Venus (arts, values, relationships) ruled his Ascendant from Pluto's domain: the 8th House. His Venus was also conjunct Michelangelo's Ascendant.

In the earlier literature BB's birthdate was often given as 1488, based on the erroneous assumption that the baptismal record of his uncle, Bartolomeo di Viviano di Bartolomeo, dated 7 October 1488 (Doc. 11), referred to him. In the 'Libri d'età' of the Archivio delle Tratte, however, the correct birthdate is corroborated: 'Messer Bartolomeo di Michelagnolo di Viviano Bandinelli adì 12 di novembre 1493' (ASF, Tratte, 81 [ex 444bis], fol. 9). 21. 1493, November 13." Scholfield calculates sunset at 4:25pm so an hour earlier makes 3:25pm.

John Handy (American jazz musician, singer, composer)

* John Handy is most commonly associated with the alto saxophone, although he also plays tenor and baritone saxophone, saxello, clarinet, oboe, and sings. He first came to prominence while working for Charles Mingus in the 1950s. In the 1960s, Handy led several groups, among them a quintet with Michael White, violin, Jerry Hahn, guitar, Don Thompson, bass, and Terry Clarke, drums. This group's performance at the 1965 Monterey Jazz Festival was recorded and released as an album; Handy received Grammy nominations for "Spanish Lady" (jazz performance) and "If Only We Knew" (jazz composition). 

Sonny Fisher, 1931-2005 (American singer, songwriter, guitarist)

* Sonny Fisher was one of America's pioneering rockabilly artists. He never achieved anything more than regional stardom in the US during the 1950s yet, when London's Ace Records reissued his 1956 recordings in 1979, he found himself proclaimed king of the rockabilly revival. 

Harry Babasin, 1921-1988 (American jazz bassist, nicknamed "The Bear")

* In 1947, Harry Babasin recorded the first cello solos known in jazz music, with the Dodo Marmarosa Trio. In order to do so, he tuned his strings in fourths. In later cello ensembles he added a bass player. He and Oscar Pettiford did a session together with two cellos. In the mid-1950s, he put together his own ensemble, Harry Babasin & the Jazzpickers, who played regularly at the Purple Onion in Hollywood; this ensemble released three albums. His career cooled in the 1960s; he supported Bob Hope on USO tours. In the 1970s he and Roy Harte initiated the Los Angeles Theaseum, a jazz archive and preservation society. 


Babasin had Mars unaspected in its own sign Aries. Surely the mark of a true pioneer. 

John Hillerman (American actor)

* John Hillerman is probably best remembered for his role as former British Army Sergeant Major Jonathan Quayle Higgins III ("Higgins") on the American TV series Magnum, P.I. (1980–1988). The Texas-born Hillerman learned to do the upper-class English accent of Higgins by watching and listening to the performances of Laurence Olivier (Hillerman and Olivier both have Gemini rising and their Moons in Virgo). Hillerman co-starred with Tom Selleck in Magnum, P.I.. Selleck's Uranus is smack-bang on Hillerman's Ascendant. 

Van Williams (American actor, "The Green Hornet")

* Van Williams is best known for his starring role as Britt Reid/the Green Hornet in the hit American TV series The Green Hornet (1966–1967). 


Williams has double-identity Mercury in Pisces ruling his Gemini MC. 

The late Bruce Lee played opposite Williams as the Green Hornet's partner, Kato. William's Virgo Ascendant is conjunct Lee's MC. 

Lawrence Ferlinghetti (American poet, painter, activist, publisher)

* Lawrence Ferlinghetti is the co-founder of City Lights, an independent bookstore-publisher in San Francisco, California that specializes in world literature, the arts, and progressive politics. An author of poetry, translations, fiction, theatre, art criticism, and film narration, Ferlinghetti is best known for A Coney Island of the Mind (1958), a collection of poems that has been translated into nine languages, with sales of over one million copies. He is also famous for his trial and acquittal on obscenity charges for publishing Allen Ginsberg's influential poetry collection Howl and Other Poems (City Lights, 1956).

Ferlinghetti has a tight Cardinal T-square involving an opposition between the Moon and Pluto-Jupiter, with Chiron-Sun in Aries at the apex (ruled by Mars in Aries on the Descendant).

Katherine Helmond (American film, theatre and television actress)

* Saturn on the Ascendant doesn't give up easily, particularly when acting as the handle of a Bucket shape carrying both luminaries and Pluto in tenacious Cancer. As Hal Erickson sums it up, Katherine Helmond "spent nearly thirty years becoming an overnight success." She worked in New York and regional theatre for two decades, making ends meet as a drama teacher, before her big break came. In 1977, aged in her late 40s, she was cast as Jessica Tate, "the scatterbrained, hedonistic matriarch" on the TV sitcom Soap, remaining with the popular series through its entire run until 1981, and earning herself a Golden Globe. Helmond then returned on the Soap spinoff Benson playing Jessica's ghost. (Even death couldn't stop her in her tracks). Helmond picked up Emmy nominations for her role as Mona Robinson, a liberated grandmother in Who's the Boss (1984-1992), and as Lois Whelan in Everybody Loves Raymond in the 2000s. Now in her 80s, she continues to work, having received acclaim for her stage performance in Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues.

Charles Blondin, 1824-1897 (French tightrope walker and acrobat)

* In the chart of Charles Blondin - called the "Chevalier Blondin", or more simply "The Great Blondin" - we find a classic bucket shape with bold-and-brave Mars in Libra (the sign of Balance) as the handle. Blondin was the most famous tightrope walker of the 19th century. The first to walk a rope across the Niagara, he performed around the world: in London, Dublin and Sydney. For his signature act he would cook an omelette midway along the tightrope and then eat it (or offer it to his audience) while drinking a glass of champagne. How very French! How very death-defying Pluto in the 8th at the apex of a T-square (ruled by a daredevil Mars bucket-handle in sextile with an Ascendant in show-off Leo)!

Charles Blondin won worldwide acclaim when he crossed the Niagara Gorge (located on the American-Canadian border) on a tightrope, 1,100 ft (340 m) long, 3.25 in (8.3 cm) in diameter and 160 ft (49 m) above the water, on 30 June 1859, and a number of times thereafter, always with different theatrical variations: blindfolded, in a sack, trundling a wheelbarrow, on stilts, carrying a man (his manager, Harry Colcord) on his back, sitting down midway while he cooked and ate an omelet and standing on a chair with only one chair leg on the rope.

In 1861, Blondin first appeared in London, at the Crystal Palace, turning somersaults on stilts on a rope stretched across the central transept, 70 feet (20 m) from the ground. The same year, he performed in Edinburgh, Scotland at the Royal Botanic Gardens, and at the Royal Portobello Gardens, Dublin. In 1874 he performed in Australia.

During his lifetime, Blondin's name was so synonymous with tightrope walking that many employed the name "Blondin" to describe others in the profession. For example there were at least five people working with variations of the Blondin name in Sydney in the 1880s, the most famous of whom was Henri L'Estrange - "the Australian Blondin".

Charles Blondin died of diabetes at his "Niagara House" in Ealing, London on 22 February 1897, aged 73.

Piero Manzoni, 1933–1963 (Italian artist)

* Piero Manzoni ― who thumbed his nose at the art-world establishment ― had Saturn rising in Aquarius opposite Venus in Leo. His most famous artwork, "produced" in 1961, consists of ninety 30g tin cans, filled with his faeces, and labelled Artist's Shit in Italian, English, French, and German. Manzoni had Neptune unaspected in anal Virgo on his Vertex.

Piero Manzoni (July 13, 1933 – February 6, 1963) was an Italian artist best known for his ironic approach to avant-garde art. Often compared to the work of Yves Klein, his own work anticipated, and directly influenced, the work of a generation of younger Italian artists brought together by the critic Germano Celant in the first Arte Povera exhibition held in Genoa, 1967. Manzoni is most famous for a series of artworks that call into question the nature of the art object, directly prefiguring Conceptual Art. His work eschews normal artist's materials, instead using everything from rabbit fur to human excrement in order to "tap mythological sources and to realize authentic and universal values".

His work is widely seen as a critique of the mass production and consumerism that was changing Italian society (the Italian economic miracle) after World War II. Italian artists such as Manzoni had to negotiate the new economic and material order of post-war Europe through inventive artistic practices which crossed geographic, artistic, and cultural borders.

Aimé Césaire, 1913–2008 (Martiniquan poet, author and politician)

* Aimé Césaire ― "one of the founders of the Négritude [Negro-ness] movement in Francophone literature" ― had power-struggler Pluto in the last degree of literary Gemini ruling his Scorpio MC, and establisher Saturn in Gemini ruling his Capricorn Ascendant.

WIKIPEDIA BIOGRAPHY

Aimé Fernand David Césaire (26 June 1913 – 17 April 2008) was born in Basse-Pointe, Martinique. He traveled to Paris to attend the Lycée Louis-le-Grand on an educational scholarship. In Paris, Césaire created, with Léopold Sédar Senghor and Léon Damas, the literary review L'Étudiant Noir (The Black Student). In 1936, Césaire began work on his long poem Cahier d'un retour au pays natal, a vivid and powerful depiction of the ambiguities of Caribbean life and culture in the New World and this upon returning home to Martinique.

In 1947 he was finally able to publish his book-length poem Cahier d'un retour au pays natal (Notebook of a Return to the Native Land), which had first been published in the Parisian periodical Volontés in 1939. The book mixes poetry and prose to express his thoughts on the cultural identity of black Africans in a colonial setting. French surrealist poet André Breton contributed a laudatory introduction to this 1947 edition, saying that the "poem is nothing less than the greatest lyrical monument of our times."

Ray Manzarek, 1939-2013 (American musician, singer, producer, film director, writer)

* The Doors' keyboardist, Ray Manzarek, has his Sagittarius Ascendant conjunct Jim Morrison's Sun, while Morrison's Aquarius Ascendant was conjunct Manzarek's Sun. The two men co-founded the legendary band in 1965.

Raymond Daniel Manczarek, Jr., known as Ray Manzarek (born February 12, 1939), is an American musician, singer, producer, film director, writer, and co-founder and keyboardist of The Doors from 1965 to 1973, Nite City from 1977–1978 and Manzarek-Krieger since 2001.

In 1962–1965, he studied in the Department of Cinematography at UCLA, where he met film student Jim Morrison. Forty days after finishing film school, thinking they had gone their separate ways, Manzarek and Morrison met by chance on Venice Beach in California. Morrison said he had written some songs, and Manzarek expressed an interest in hearing them, whereupon Morrison sang a rough version of "Moonlight Drive." Manzarek liked the songs and co-founded the Doors with Morrison at that moment.

The Doors lacked a bassist, so Manzarek usually played the bass parts on a Fender Rhodes piano. His signature sound is that of the Vox Continental combo organ, an instrument used by many other psychedelic rock bands of the era.

Pope Francis (New 9p.m. birth time, Birth record, Astrology data and chart)

* GraZia Bordoni has posted a photograph of the birth record of Pope Francis, courtesy of Claudia Rizzi. The document shows a birth time of 9 p.m. (link to image of birth certificate below), 10 Cancer Ascendant. Previously a birth time of 5:10 p.m. was posted, data cited from a (mis)quoted but unseen birth record.

Francis (born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on 17 December 1936) is the 266th and current pope of the Roman Catholic Church, elected on 13 March 2013. As such, he is both head of the Church and sovereign of the Holy See.

A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, he was ordained as a priest in 1969. He served as head of the Society of Jesus in Argentina from 1973 to 1979. In 1998 he became the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, and in 2001 a cardinal. Following the resignation of his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, on 28 February 2013, the conclave elected Bergoglio, who chose the papal name Francis in honour of Saint Francis of Assisi. He is the first pope to be a Jesuit, the first pope to come from the Americas, and the first pope to come from the Southern Hemisphere.

Francis (born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on 17 December 1936) is the 266th and current pope of the Roman Catholic Church, elected on 13 March 2013. As such, he is both head of the Church and sovereign of the Holy See.

A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, he was ordained as a priest in 1969. He served as head of the Society of Jesus in Argentina from 1973 to 1979. In 1998 he became the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, and in 2001 a cardinal. Following the resignation of his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, on 28 February 2013, the conclave elected Bergoglio, who chose the papal name Francis in honour of Saint Francis of Assisi. He is the first pope to be a Jesuit, the first pope to come from the Americas, and the first pope to come from the Southern Hemisphere.
