Rose McGowan (American actress, model and singer)

* "Appearing as a cross between Betty Boop's evil sister and a very curvaceous Hell's Angel, actress Rose McGowan made an undeniably distinct impression on Hollywood in the late '90s. With her sharp tongue and brash sensuality, McGowan has been a source of both titillation and discomfort to an industry that still hasn't quite figured out what to do with women who are both unapologetically smart and sexual." This excerpt from McGowan's biography on AllMovie neatly encapsulates her unaspected conjunction of Uranus and Venus in Libra. This conjunction makes a Grand Air Trine with her Ascendant and MC.

McGowan was in a very public three and a half year relationship (1998-2001) with rock musician Marilyn Manson (see his chart). Her MC conjuncts his 7th cusp and her Uranus-Venus conjunction trines his 7th cusp.

Anna Moffo, 1932–2006 (American opera singer, TV personality, actress)

* The Sun tends to amplify the qualities of any planet that enters its rays by conjunction. Ann Moffo had the Sun conjunct Venus (both in Cancer and on the Ascendant) at the end of her 12th House. The Sun added a warm and radiance to her soprano voice and reinforced the beauty of "La Bellissima" as she was known.

Ferdinando de' Medici, 1663–1713 (Italian patron of the arts and music)

* Ferdinando de' Medici, Grand Prince of Tuscany, is remembered today primarily as a patron of music.

An excellent musician himself (sometimes called "the Orpheus of princes"), he attracted top musicians (like the Baroque composers Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti) to Florence and thus made it an important musical centre. Moreover, through his patronage of Bartolomeo Cristofori, Ferdinando made possible the invention of the piano in 1700. All this courtesy of Neptune unaspected on his MC.

Baccio Bandinelli (Italian Renaissance sculptor, draughtsman and painter)

* Pluto and its sign Scorpio are associated with intense jealousy. Baccio Bandinelli had Pluto in Scorpio opposite his Ascendant (smack-bang on his 7th cusp) ruling the Sun in the last degree of Scorpio (also in the 7th). Notorious for his envy (of other artists), he obsessively imitated the works of Michelangelo whom he saw as a rival, and he tried to sabotage Benvenuto Cellini's career. Bandinelli's Venus (arts, values, relationships) ruled his Ascendant from Pluto's domain: the 8th House. His Venus was also conjunct Michelangelo's Ascendant.
NATAL DATA and ASTROLOGY CHART

BIRTH DATA: Bartolommeo Brandini, 12 November 1493 OS, 15:25 (3:25 PM) LMT (-0:45), Florence, Italy (43n46, 11e15). ASC: 8 Taurus. RR: B (from biography, but birth records are indicated). SOURCE: Sy Scholfield cites birth documents quoted in "Baccio Bandinelli and art at the Medici court: a corpus of early modern sources, Volume 251" by Louis Alexander Waldman (American Philosophical Society, 2004), p. 7: "born in Florence (an hour before sunset) and baptized the following day . . . In the earlier literature BB's birthdate was often given as 1488, based on the erroneous assumption that the baptismal record of his uncle, Bartolomeo di Viviano di Bartolomeo, dated 7 October 1488 (Doc. 11), referred to him. In the 'Libri d'età' of the Archivio delle Tratte, however, the correct birthdate is corroborated: 'Messer Bartolomeo di Michelagnolo di Viviano Bandinelli adì 12 di novembre 1493' (ASF, Tratte, 81 [ex 444bis], fol. 9). 21. 1493, November 13." Scholfield calculates sunset at 4:25pm so an hour earlier makes 3:25pm.

Anita Garibaldi, 1821–1849 (Brazilian revolutionary)

* Anita Garibaldi ― who joined the revolutionary cause and transformed the life of Giuseppe Garibaldi, the man who united Italy in 1860 ― had Pluto at 29° Pisces (in the last degree of its Scorpio decan) on the cusp of the revolutionary 11th House ruled by Neptune on the cusp of the transformative 8th.

Their partnership epitomized the spirit of the 19th century's age of romanticism and revolutionary liberalism.

Piero Manzoni, 1933–1963 (Italian artist)

* Piero Manzoni ― who thumbed his nose at the art-world establishment ― had Saturn rising in Aquarius opposite Venus in Leo. His most famous artwork, "produced" in 1961, consists of ninety 30g tin cans, filled with his faeces, and labelled Artist's Shit in Italian, English, French, and German. Manzoni had Neptune unaspected in anal Virgo on his Vertex.

WIKIPEDIA BIOGRAPHY

Piero Manzoni (July 13, 1933 – February 6, 1963) was an Italian artist best known for his ironic approach to avant-garde art. Often compared to the work of Yves Klein, his own work anticipated, and directly influenced, the work of a generation of younger Italian artists brought together by the critic Germano Celant in the first Arte Povera exhibition held in Genoa, 1967. Manzoni is most famous for a series of artworks that call into question the nature of the art object, directly prefiguring Conceptual Art. His work eschews normal artist's materials, instead using everything from rabbit fur to human excrement in order to "tap mythological sources and to realize authentic and universal values".

His work is widely seen as a critique of the mass production and consumerism that was changing Italian society (the Italian economic miracle) after World War II. Italian artists such as Manzoni had to negotiate the new economic and material order of post-war Europe through inventive artistic practices which crossed geographic, artistic, and cultural borders.

Piero di Cosimo, 1462–1522 (Italian Renaissance painter)

* Piero di Cosimo had five planets and his Ascendant in Aquarius. No wonder, then, that he acquired a reputation for eccentricity during his lifetime.

Piero di Cosimo (2 January 1462 – 12 April 1522), also known as Piero di Lorenzo, was born in Florence and apprenticed under the artist Cosimo Rosseli, from whom he derived his popular name and whom he assisted in the painting of the Sistine Chapel in 1481.

In the first phase of his career, Piero was influenced by the Netherlandish naturalism of Hugo van der Goes, whose Portinari Triptych (now at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence) helped to lead the whole of Florentine painting into new channels. From him, most probably, Cosimo acquired the love of landscape and the intimate knowledge of the growth of flowers and of animal life.

He journeyed to Rome in 1482 with his master, Rosselli. He proved himself a true child of the Renaissance by depicting subjects of Classical mythology in such pictures as the Venus, Mars, and Cupid, The Death of Procris, the Perseus and Andromeda series, at the Uffizi, and many others. Inspired to the Vitruvius' account of the evolution of man, Piero's mythical compositions show the bizarre presence of hybrid forms of men and animals, or the man learning to use fire and tools.

During his lifetime, Cosimo acquired a reputation for eccentricity. Reportedly, he was frightened of thunderstorms, and so pyrophobic that he rarely cooked his food; he lived largely on hard-boiled eggs, which he prepared 50 at a time while boiling glue for his artworks. He also resisted any cleaning of his studio, or trimming of the fruit trees of his orchard; he lived, wrote Vasari, "more like a beast than a man".

Piero enjoyed a great reputation as a portrait painter: the most famous of his work is in fact the portrait of a Florentine noblewoman, Simonetta Vespucci, mistress of Giuliano de' Medici.

HOROSCOPE NOTES

His Aquarian stellium was ruled by Uranus in Virgo, signalling his pyrophobia and weird dietary obsessions.

NATAL DATA and ASTROLOGY CHART

BIRTH DATA: Piero di Lorenzo di Piero, 2 January 1462 [OS], 09:00 (9 a.m.) LMT (-0:45), Florence, Italy (43n46, 11e15). ASC: 17 Aquarius. RR: AA (from quoted birth records). SOURCE: Sy Scholfield (c) quotes Dennis Geronimus's article, "The birth date, ealy life, and career of Piero di Cosimo" (The Art Bulletin, New York: March 2000. Vol. 82, Iss. 1; pg. 164, 7 pgs): "A new database of Florentine baptismal records, currently being compiled by Karl Schlebusch and Anne Schleicher, provided a list of all males born and baptized as Piero di Lorenzo in Florence between 1450 and 1470, allowing the discovery of a new document specifically recording that Piero di Lorenzo di Piero, of the parish of S. Lorenzo, was born at fifteen hours after sundown (approximately nine in the morning) on January 2, 1462, and baptized on the same day. ... The Italian hours are explained briefly in E. H. Ramsden, The Letters of Michelangelo, vol. 1 (London: Peter Owen, 1963). Sunset marked the beginning of the day, meaning that the first hour varied from day to day; the same hour, therefore, represented a different time in each of the seasons. In the case of Piero's birth, fifteen hours (after sunset) in January would be equivalent to roughly nine in the morning."

Paolo Tosti, 1846–1916 (composer, music teacher)

* Italian-British composer, Sir Paolo Tosti, born at "four in the monring," had melodic Venus in Pisces on his Ascendant.

Sir Paolo Tosti (April 9, 1846 – December 2, 1916) was an Italian, later British, composer and music teacher.

Tosti is remembered for his light, expressive songs, which are characterized by natural, singable melodies and sweet sentimentality. He is also known for his editions of Italian folk songs entitled "Canti popolari Abruzzesi".

His style became very popular during the Belle Époque and is often known as salon music. His most famous works are Serenata (lyrics: Cesareo), Good-bye! (lyrics: George J. Whyte-Melville) which is sometimes performed in Italian as Addio (lyrics: Rizzelli), and the popular Neapolitan song, Marechiare, the lyrics of which are by the prominent Neapolitan dialect poet, Salvatore Di Giacomo. Malia, Ancora and Non t'amo piu were and remain popular concert pieces.

Tosti wrote well for the voice, allowing, indeed encouraging, interpretation and embellishment from operatic singers. Most artists, therefore, specializing in the classical Italian repertoire have performed and recorded Tosti songs; yet Tosti never composed opera. Notable examples on record include Alessandro Moreschi (the only castrato who ever recorded) singing "Ideale", Mattia Battistini singing "Ancora", Nellie Melba singing "Mattinata" and Jussi Björling singing "L'alba separa dalla luce l'ombra"

HOROSCOPE NOTES

"Tosti is remembered for his light, expressive songs, which are characterized by natural, singable melodies and sweet sentimentality." Sounds like melodic Venus in sentimental Pisces very close to the Ascendant in the expressive 1st House!

Newsmaker: Nick d'Aloisio (Flat data, noon Astrology chart)

* I've found the Times birth notice for Nick D'Aloisio, the British-Australian entrepreneur, computer programmer and designer who has become known for the creation of Summly and its technology. No birth time yet, sorry.

Nick D'Aloisio has been recognised as the youngest person to receive a round of venture capital in technology at just 15 years of age. D'Aloisio's business partners include Li Ka-Shing, Rupert Murdoch, Ashton Kutcher, Stephen Fry, Yoko Ono and Mark Pincus, among others.

D'Aloisio grew up in London, United Kingdom, attending King's College School, in Wimbledon where he received an Academic Scholarship. D'Aloisio received his first computer at 9 and used it to create movies with editing tools such as Final Cut Pro. D'Aloisio began writing apps at the age of 12 in 2008. He is still based in London. His mother Diana D'Aloisio is a lawyer and his father works in commodities.

D'Aloisio was born in Australia in 1996, with his parents Diana and Lou. He lived in both Melbourne and Perth. D'Aloisio created the Trimit application for iOS in March 2011, which used an analytical tool to condense text content into 1000, 500, or 140-character summary text. The app caught the attention of Apple who featured Trimit as a new and noteworthy application on the App Store in July 2011. The potential of Trimit attracted the attention of Hong Kong based billionaire Li Ka-shing, who provided D'Alosio with US$300,000 in venture capital funding. D'Alosio used the feedback and criticism from Trimit to completely re-design the application, and re-launched it in December 2011, as Summly. As of March 2013 Summly was sold to Yahoo for a reported $30 million US dollars.

Summly aimed to solve perceived problems with the way news articles are presented on smartphones, with initial version of Summly being downloaded by over 200,000 users. As a result of the corporate support, in November, 2012, D'Alosio received US$1,000,000 in new venture funding for Summly from several international celebrities such as Yoko Ono, Ashton Kutcher and Stephen Fry, in addition to Hong Kong business mogul Li Ka-shing.
