Roger Sessions, 1896-1985 (American composer, critic, teacher of music)

* In her recently released biography of Roger Sessions, Andrea Olmstead quotes his birth certificate for a birth time of "7:00 a.m." Previously, I quoted a biography of Sessions by the same author for a birth time of "on the morning ... just in time to be welcomed by daylight."

Sessions had the Sun rising in Capricorn in the 1st house. He was one of the leading American composers of the 20th century, and he was twice awarded the Pulitzer Prize.

WIKIPEDIA BLURB

His first major compositions came while he was travelling Europe with his wife in his mid-twenties and early thirties. Returning to the United States in 1933, he taught first at Princeton University (from 1936), moved to the University of California, Berkeley, where he taught from 1945 to 1953, and then returned to Princeton until retiring in 1965. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1961. He was appointed Bloch Professor at Berkeley (1966–67), and gave the Charles Eliot Norton Lectures at Harvard University in 1968–69. He continued to teach on a part-time basis at the Juilliard School from 1966 until 1983.

His works written up to 1930 or so are more or less neoclassical in style. Those written between 1930 and 1940 are more or less tonal but harmonically complex. The works from 1946 on are atonal, and beginning with the Solo Violin Sonata of 1953, serial.

Renée Jolivet (French nursemaid, artist's model)

* Renée Jolivet - nursemaid to the family of Auguste Renoir - is seen here in his painting, Claude and Renée, holding Auguste's son Claude "Clo-Clo" Renoir.
Her Venus is closely conjunct the painter's Neptune and Ascendant: She epitomised his preference for full-bodied women (See their charts below).
Later in life, Jolivet ran a delicatessen shop in Montmartre. Nursing and retail occupations are typical for a person with a Virgo Ascendant.

Biography

Renée Jolivet was a maid and nurse in the household of the painter, Auguste Renoir. She was the daughter of a day labourer and his wife who delivered Auguste's son, Claude. Jolivet posed for Auguste in the period 1901-1904. Jolivet was considered by Auguste's son Jean Renoir to be the most memorable of the nursemaids and models after Gabrielle Renard. In 1904 Jolivet left the Renoir household. She was married twice and had a daughter. For a time Jolivet ran a small grocery shop in Montmartre. She died on 25 October 1973.

Margaret Thatcher, 1925-2013 (British stateswoman)

* The Times has described Margaret Thatcher as a "woman of contradictions" and "the most admired, detested, praised and vilified figure of the second half of the twentieth century" who "inspired blind hatred, swooning worship, anger and adoration [b]ut never indifference." The 'iron Lady' had indomitable Saturn rising in Scorpio trined by its ruler, take-no-prisoners Pluto.

Margaret Hilda Thatcher, Baroness Thatcher, LG, OM, PC, FRS (née Roberts, 13 October 1925 – 8 April 2013) was a British politician who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990 and the Leader of the Conservative Party from 1975 to 1990. A Soviet journalist called her the "Iron Lady", a nickname that became associated with her uncompromising politics and leadership style. As Prime Minister, she implemented policies that have come to be known as Thatcherism.

Update: Caesar Rodney (American lawyer and politician)

* According to Caesar Rodney's father's diary - the future President of Delaware during most of the American Revolution - was born while "there was no sole with her [his mother] but myself--being I believe [at] just about midnight" on 7 October 1728. The biography in which the diary is transcribed does not seem to state the calendar used by the biographer for the date, but thankyou to Alois Treindl for pointing out that the date was probably Old Style. I have checked and this seems correct. The updated data and chart are below.

Caesar Rodney (October 7, 1728 – June 26, 1784) was an American lawyer and politician from St. Jones Neck in Dover Hundred, Kent County, Delaware, east of Dover. He was an officer of the Delaware militia during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution, a Continental Congressman from Delaware, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and President of Delaware during most of the American Revolution.

Read more from his Wikipedia biography.

HOROSCOPE NOTES

An officer of the militia: Mars sextile Pluto; a signer of the Declaration of Independence: Chiron (hands) sextile Saturn in Aquarius.

SOURCE: Sy Scholfield (c) quotes Jane Scott, A gentleman as well as a Whig: Caesar Rodney and the American Revolution (University of Delaware Press, 2000), p. 16: "Caesar Rodney, the first child of Caesar Rodney, Sr. and Elizabeth Crawford Rodney was born shortly after midnight, on October 7, 1728. It is thought that his young parents were living in a small house owned by Elizabeth's father, not far from the Rodney farm at Byfield. According to Caesar Rodney, Sr.'s diary, the young father immediately sent for a midwife 'and other women,' but 'before aney came ye Child wass Born and it wass a Son.' As 'there was no sole with her but myself--being I believe just about midnight.'"
