Diana Vreeland, 1903–1989 (French-American magazine editor and fashion journalist)

* Wikipedia gives at least two different dates of birth for Diana Vreeland (29/7/1903 and 29/9/1903) and her birth certificate gives another (29/12/1903), but the certificate is dated 2 October 1903. Clearly the December date is an impossibility: the clerk made a mistake and should have written "29 September," which is the date specified in her birth notice published in The Times [London, England] on 2 October 1903.

Many thanks to Marc Brun for acquiring the birth certificate for us!

Vreeland is a fashion icon: Neptune on her Ascendant rules Jupiter in Pisces on her MC. From 1936 until her resignation in 1962, she ran a column for Harper's Bazaar called "Why Don't You?". She was editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine from 1963 until 1971. Vreeland advised First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in matters of style and she is credited with inventing the word "pizzazz."

Neptune on the Ascendant can also bring confusion about the circumstances of a person's birth but in Vreeland's case the mystery surrounding her date of birth has now been solved!

SOURCE: Birth certificate obtained by Marc Brun, dated 2 October 1903 and mistakenly stating date of birth as 29 December. Date of birth confirmed by her birth notice found by Sy Scholfield in The Times, 2 October 1903, p. 1: "DALZIEL.--On the 29th ult., at 5 Avenue de Bois de Boulogne, Paris . . . a daughter."

Wilfred Thesiger, 1910–2003 (British explorer, travel writer & photographer)

* Wilfred Thesiger had vagabond Jupiter in the 9th on his MC and ruling his Sagittarian 12th house, translating into a life of nomadic exploration: he crossed parts of Arabia by foot and camel, and trudged through the marshlands of southern Iraq. His Sun is all but unaspected in literary, travel-loving and multi-cultural Gemini; he wrote various travel books including Arabian Sands (1959) and The Marsh Arabs (1964). Photographic Neptune in accumulative Cancer is square its ruler Moon in pioneering Aries: Thesiger donated his vast and original collection of 23,000 negatives to the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford.

His acting career included a supporting role as Willard Whyte in the 1971 James Bond movie, Diamonds Are Forever. He lived near Richmond, Virginia, and was nominated for the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010, although he was formally inducted posthumously.

John Carter, 1929–1991 (American jazz clarinet, saxophone, flute player)

* In the 1970s John Carter became well known on the basis of his extraordinary solo concerts. At New Jazz Festival Moers 1979 he and the German clarinet player Theo Jörgensmann performed on three days. Afterwards Carter received complimentary reviews and wide recognition from around the world. He and Jörgensmann met again in 1984. The program of the Berlin JazzFest was built around the clarinet. After Carter's solo performance, he and Jörgensmann also played together. Between 1982 and 1990 Carter composed and recorded Roots and Folklore: Episodes in the Development of American Folk Music, in five albums focused on African Americans and their history. The complete set was acclaimed by jazz critics as containing some of the best releases of the 1980s.

Johnny Bush (American country music singer, songwriter, and drummer)

* Johnny Bush, nicknamed the "Country Caruso," is best known for his distinctive voice and as the writer of "Whiskey River," a top-ten hit for himself and Willie Nelson's signature song. In the early 1970s, Bush lost half of his vocal range and was sometimes unable to talk. RCA dropped him in 1974 after three albums, he developed a drug habit, and was often stricken with performance anxiety. After several misdiagnoses, doctors diagnosed the cause in 1978, when they discovered he had a rare neurological disorder called spasmodic dysphonia. He worked with a vocal coach in 1985, and was able to regain seventy percent of his original voice. Bush has an exact conjunction of Mercury and the Sun (vocal expression) quincunxed by Pluto in the 6th, the House of health issues.

Bobbie Nelson (American pianist and singer)

* Bobbie Nelson is the sister of Willie Nelson. At age sixteen she married Bud Fletcher, who formed his own band, The Texans. She joined on the piano, while her brother joined on vocals and guitar. The band was dissembled in 1955 after she divorced Fletcher. In 1973 she joined Willie Nelson on the piano during his sessions with Atlantic Records, that produced The Troublemaker, Shotgun Willie, Phases and Stages and Red Headed Stranger. The same year she joined Willie's band, The Family, full time and began touring with her brother. In 2008, she released her solo debut album, Audiobiography.. Bobbie's Taurus Moon is conjunct Willie's Chiron and her Capricorn Saturn is conjunct his Ascendant (see his chart here). Good solid synastry for this sister-brother duo!

John Edward Robinson (American serial killer)

* John Edward Robinson was known as "Slavemaster" to some of the women he met on the Internet. A sexual deviate with a taste for sadomasochistic rituals of extreme domination and torture, Robinson has Pluto on his North Node ruling his Scorpio Ascendant. He was found guilty in 2003 of three murders and he has subsequently admitted responsibility for five additional homicides. Because he made contact with most of his post-1993 victims via on-line chat rooms, he is sometimes referred to as "the Internet's first serial killer."

Michael C. Hall (American actor)

* Michael C. Hall is best known for his role as the serial-killer Dexter Morgan in the Showtime TV series Dexter. Hall has won a Golden Globe award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for this role. Previously, he played David Fisher, a young man struggling with his homosexuality while following in the footsteps of his deceased mortician-father, in the HBO drama series Six Feet Under.

Hall's Aquarian Sun and Ascendant are ruled by Uranus in the 8th: the house of death, murder, mortuaries, serial-killers and sexuality issues. Pluto also resides in this house in the last degree of analytical Virgo and in quincunx with the Ascendant. Moreover, Pluto and Neptune make a Yod with the Moon. Luna is at the apex of the Yod in bloody Aries on the cusp of the Jekyll-and-Hyde 3rd house: Dexter is a blood-spatter analyst by day, and a serial killer vigilante by night. Note also Mars on the MC ruling the Moon, and Mars and Neptune conjunct their ruler Jupiter (final dispositor of the chart) on the MC. Jupiter thus particularly exaggerates Mars and Neptune, hence all the blood and gore and all the deception about Dexter's true character (which gives the show its kick).

Hall's ex-wife, Jennifer Carpenter, plays Dexter's adoptive sister, Debra Morgan, in the TV series. Carpenter's Sun-Neptune conjuncts Hall's MC-Venus. Hall's 8th-house Uranus conjuncts Carpenter's Ascendant. And Carpenter, who plays a rookie-cum-senior-detective on Dexter, has Pluto rising in her chart (see her chart here).

WIKIPEDIA BLURB

Hall stars in and co-produces the Showtime television series Dexter, in which he plays the eponymous character, a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who moonlights as a vigilante serial killer. The series premiered on October 1, 2006 and its eighth and final season has begun on June 30, 2013. For his work on Dexter, Hall was nominated for five more Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. The show itself was also nominated for a 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Emmy in the Drama Series category. He won the 2007 Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement in Drama. Hall was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Drama in 2007, and again in 2008, finally winning the award at the 67th Golden Globe Awards in 2010. Also in 2010, he won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. Season 6 premiered on October 2, 2011. Michael C. Hall was nominated for Best Leading Actor in a Drama series at the 2011 Emmy Awards, but did not win the category. Hall was negotiating his contract along with Showtime to raise his salary for the seventh season. On November 18, 2011, it was announced that Dexter had been renewed for a seventh season which concluded December 2012, and the show was renewed for an eighth season to air June 30, 2013. After months of rumors, on April 18, 2013, Showtime announced via social media that season eight would be the final season of Dexter.

Louie Spence (English dance expert, choreographer, television personality)

* Louie Spence is best known as the artistic director at the Pineapple Dance Studios. He was a professional dancer in his youth, performing in West End musicals including Cats and Closer to Heaven, although more recently, he has become known for his appearances in the Sky1 series Louie Spence's Showbusiness and appearing as a judge on the seventh series of Dancing on Ice.

Which are the dancing planets? Certainly Neptune — which rises in its own house in Spence's chart and rules his IC in the last degree of Pisces. And probably Jupiter — here ruling his Sagittarius Ascendant from the last degree of Virgo smack-bang on the MC.

Edward Everett Horton, 1886–1970 (American character actor)

* Edward Everett Horton — best known to the Babyboomers and Gen-Xers as the venerable narrator of the "Fractured Fairy Tales" segment in the animated cartoon TV series, The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show (1959-1964) — had Mars and Mercury each devoid of Ptolemaic aspects while in mutual reception (yet separated by a wide-orbed and fracturing quincunx).

Jupiter (ruler of his Sagittarius Ascendant) was conjunct Uranus and the MC and opposite the Sun in Pisces — a great combination for a character actor.

WIKIPEDIA BLURB

Edward Everett Horton (March 18, 1886 – September 29, 1970) had a long career in film, theater, radio, television and voice work for animated cartoons. He is especially known for his work in the films of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

Horton starred in many comedy features in the 1930s, usually playing a mousy fellow who put up with domestic or professional problems to a certain point, and then finally asserted himself for a happy ending. He is best known, however, for his work as a character actor in supporting roles. Some of his noteworthy films include The Front Page (1931), Trouble in Paradise (1932), Alice in Wonderland (1933), The Gay Divorcee (1934), Top Hat (1935, one of several Astaire/Rogers films in which Horton appeared), Danger - Love at Work (1937), Lost Horizon (1937), Holiday (1938), Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941), Arsenic and Old Lace (1944), Pocketful of Miracles (1961), It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), and Sex and the Single Girl (1964).

In 1962, he portrayed the character 'Uncle Ned' in three episodes of the CBS television series Dennis the Menace. In 1965, he played the medicine man, Roaring Chicken, in the ABC sitcom F Troop. He parodied this role, portraying "Chief Screaming Chicken" on ABC's Batman as a pawn to Vincent Price's Egghead in the villain's attempt to take control of Gotham City.

Vanessa L. Williams (American singer, actress, producer, fashion model)

* In 1983, 20-year-old Vanessa L. Williams became the first African-American woman crowned Miss America, but a scandal arose when Penthouse magazine bought and published nude photographs of her. Saturn conjunct Venus in the 8th house can put great obstacles in the path of the most talented of beauties but these obstacles can, in turn, pave the way for well-deserved success. Williams relinquished her Miss America title and rebounded from this early setback by launching a career as a singer and actor, earning multiple Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award nominations in the process. She is probably the most successful Miss America winner to have entered the entertainment field.

In their mother-and-daughter biography, Helen Williams writes, "On the front of Vanessa's birth announcement there's a drawing of a smiling baby girl wearing a big crown and holding a scepter. It reads, 'Here she is—Miss America.'" The book includes a photo of the prophetic baby card, showing Vanessa's middle name as "Lynne" and a birth time of 11:28 a.m. Due to copyright restrictions I won't publish this image but it can be viewed here on the Amazon Books website. Romy Ransom did brilliant work obtaining the same data, including the birth time, from Williams three decades ago in the early days of Williams' career.

WIKIPEDIA BLURB

Vanessa Williams released her debut album The Right Stuff in 1988, which spawned the hits "The Right Stuff", a No. 1 on Hot Dance Songs, and "Dreamin'" a No. 1 on R&B and No. 8 on Billboard Hot 100. Her second studio album The Comfort Zone in 1991 topped the Billboard R&B Album Chart, which spawned the Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit "Save the Best for Last". In 1994 she debuted on Broadway in the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman. In 1995 she recorded "Colors of the Wind", the Oscar-winner for Best Original Song from the Disney animated feature film Pocahontas, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Williams's first major film role was as the star of the feature film Eraser in 1996. She also starred in the movies Soul Food, Dance with Me, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, Shaft and Johnson Family Vacation. From 2006 to 2010, she played the role of the scheming, self-absorbed diva and former supermodel Wilhelmina Slater in the ABC comedy series Ugly Betty, for which she received three Emmy Awards nominations. In 2009, Williams released her eighth studio album, The Real Thing. From 2010 to 2012, she starred in Desperate Housewives as spoiled rich woman Renee Perry. She starred in the supernatural drama series 666 Park Avenue in 2012.

BIRTH DATA: Vanessa Lynne Williams, 18 March 1963, 11:28 (11:28 a.m.) EST (+5), Millwood (?), New York, USA (41n12, 73w48). ASC: 9 Cancer. RR: AA (from quoted baby card reproduced in a biography). SOURCE: Sy Scholfield (©) quotes Vanessa Williams and Helen Williams, with Irene Zutell, You Have No Idea: A Famous Daughter, Her No-nonsense Mother, and How They Survived Pageants, Hollywood, Love, Loss (and Each Other) (New York: Gotham/Penguin, 2012), p. 73: "Vanessa was born ten days late on March 18, 1963, at 11:28 A.M., weighing seven pounds seven ounces, and measuring twenty inches." A photograph of Vanessa's baby card stating the same information appears on page 75 (view image here). Previously, Romy Ransom quoted Williams in person for the same data when Williams was a beauty contestant. Williams' place of birth has been given as Tarrytown, Millwood and the Bronx, all in New York state. Whichever of these places she was born in (or somewhere in between) does not change the Ascendant or Moon degrees.

Conrad Hilton Jr., 1926–1969 (American socialite, hotel heir)

* Handsome hotel heir, Conrad Hilton Jr., had maidenly Venus in Gemini smack-bang on his Ascendant and with no close aspects except for a sextile to its ruler, Mercury in glamour-puss Leo. He liked the ladies and he is remembered for his short marriage to one beautiful future star in particular. Not the beauty queen Zsa Zsa Gabor, with whom he had an affair in his teens while she was his step-mother. And not the second of his two 18-year-old brides, oil heiress Patricia McClintock, but the other young lady: the budding screen legend Elizabeth Taylor. When he died young, at the age of 42, Hilton was fated to be identified in headlines as "ONCE WED TO LIZ TAYLOR." A renowned playboy and gambler, Hilton had philandering punter Jupiter on his MC opposite majorly boozy Neptune in Leo on his IC (and its ruler the Sun conjunct do-or-die Pluto). His death from a heart attack was brought about by many years of hitting the bottle.

WIKIPEDIA BLURB

Conrad Nicholson "Nicky" Hilton, Jr. (July 6, 1926 – March 31, 1969) was an American socialite, hotel heir, businessman, and TWA director. He was one of the sons of Conrad Hilton (founder of Hilton Hotels).

Hilton was born in Dallas, Texas. His father was Conrad Nicholson Hilton, founder of Hilton Hotels, and his mother was Mary Adelaide (Barron). Hilton grew up with three siblings: William Barron Hilton, Eric Michael Hilton, and Constance Francesca Hilton. He was the great-uncle of Paris and Nicky Hilton, the latter sharing his nickname. He attended New Mexico Military Institute.

Hilton had an affair with his step-mother, Zsa Zsa Gabor, in 1944. He was Elizabeth Taylor's first husband (May 6, 1950 – January 29, 1951) with the marriage ending in divorce. In 1958, Hilton married oil heiress Patricia "Trish" McClintock. They had two sons: Conrad Nicholson Hilton III and Michael Otis Hilton.
