Larry L. King, 1929–2012 (American playwright, journalist, and novelist)

* Larry L. King is best remembered for his 1978 Tony Award-nominated play The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which became a long-running production on Broadway and was later turned into a feature film starring Burt Reynolds, Charles Durning and Dolly Parton.

In 1974, he wrote an article about the Chicken Ranch brothel in La Grange, Texas; after the article was published in Playboy, King and fellow Texan Peter Masterson developed it into the book of the Broadway musical.

King received an Emmy Award in 1982 for the CBS documentary The Best Little Statehouse in Texas.

King died on 20 December 2012, at a retirement home in Washington, D. C., survived by his third wife, five children, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

B. C. Forbes, 1880–1954 (Scottish-American financial journalist, publisher)

* B. C. Forbes emigrated to New York City in 1904 where he worked as a writer, financial editor, and syndicated columnist, eventually founding Forbes magazine in 1917.

Forbes is a business magazine which features original articles on finance, industry, investing, and marketing topics. It also reports on related subjects such as technology, communications, science, and law. The magazine is well known for its lists and rankings, including its lists of the richest Americans (the Forbes 400) and rankings of world's top companies (the Forbes Global 2000). The motto of Forbes magazine is "The Capitalist Tool."

B. C. Forbes had powerful planetary combinations in his chart: Pluto conjunct Sun (ruler of the Leo Ascendant) and Mars conjunct Moon (with Mars ruling Saturn on a 29° Aries MC). Not to mention a stellium of six planets in business-oriented Taurus high in the sky. Oh, and unaspected Jupiter in Aries.

Margaret Fulton (British-Australian food and cooking writer, journalist, author, commentator)

* In her early recipes Margaret Fulton encouraged Australian housewives to alter the Australian staple of "meat and three vegetables" and to be creative with food. She 'discovered' food from exotic places such as Spain, Italy, India and China.

In 2006, The Bulletin named Fulton in their list of 'The 100 most influential Australians,' writing that she is "Australia's original domestic goddess. No cookery writer since can claim her blanket influence... Fulton turned us into foodies."

The Sun in Australia's chart is at 10° Capricorn and the MC at 2° Aquarius. Fulton's Ascendant (9° Capricorn) and Moon (26° Capricoen) conjunct these points, cementing her status as an "Australian Living Treasure."

NATAL DATA and ASTROLOGY CHART

BIRTH DATA: Margaret Isobel Fulton, 6 October 1924, 14:45 (2:45pm) Nairn, Scotland (57n35, 3w53). ASC: 9 Capricorn. RR: AA (Quoted birth record). SOURCE: Sy Scholfield requested the data from Caroline Gerard who quoted from Fulton's birth certificate. Wikipedia and other sources give the wrong date of 10 October. Fulton has stated: "Let me see, I was born 6/10/24" [https://cooked.com.au/thefeed/2014/10/02/10/58/margaret-fulton-90-birthday].

Diana Vreeland, 1903–1989 (French-American magazine editor and fashion journalist)

* Wikipedia gives at least two different dates of birth for Diana Vreeland (29/7/1903 and 29/9/1903) and her birth certificate gives another (29/12/1903), but the certificate is dated 2 October 1903. Clearly the December date is an impossibility: the clerk made a mistake and should have written "29 September," which is the date specified in her birth notice published in The Times [London, England] on 2 October 1903.

Many thanks to Marc Brun for acquiring the birth certificate for us!

Vreeland is a fashion icon: Neptune on her Ascendant rules Jupiter in Pisces on her MC. From 1936 until her resignation in 1962, she ran a column for Harper's Bazaar called "Why Don't You?". She was editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine from 1963 until 1971. Vreeland advised First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in matters of style and she is credited with inventing the word "pizzazz."

Neptune on the Ascendant can also bring confusion about the circumstances of a person's birth but in Vreeland's case the mystery surrounding her date of birth has now been solved!

NATAL DATA and ASTROLOGY CHART

BIRTH DATA: Diana Dalziel, 29 September 1903, 22:30 (10:30 PM) (-0:09:20), Paris, France (48n52, 02e20). ASC: 12 Cancer. RR: AA (birth certificate in hand). SOURCE: Birth certificate obtained by Marc Brun, dated 2 October 1903 and mistakenly stating date of birth as 29 December. Date of birth confirmed by her birth notice found by Sy Scholfield in The Times, 2 October 1903, p. 1: "DALZIEL.--On the 29th ult., at 5 Avenue de Bois de Boulogne, Paris . . . a daughter."

Peaches Geldof, 1989-2014 (English journalist, TV presenter, model)

* According to news of Peaches Geldof's birth, she was born at night. That is all that I can find about her time of birth. A speculative time of 9 p.m. is right between sundown that day (6 p.m.) and midnight, giving Libra rising. When she died on 7 April 2014 under a Grand Cross, transiting Pluto was conjunct her Neptune-Saturn and the transiting Uranus-Sun conjunction straddled her natal Eris (and maybe also her Descendant?).

NATAL DATA and ASTROLOGY CHART

The baby, weighing 7 pounds, 9 ounces and as yet unnamed, was born Monday night in London's St. Mary's Hospital, said spokeswoman Marcia Hunt." ASC: Libra??. Robert Hoge (Australian writer, disability advocate)

* Robert Hoge has worked as a journalist, a speechwriter, a science communicator and a political advisor. His writings have been published in Australia and overseas. Hoge was born with a giant tumour on his forehead, severely distorted facial features and legs that were twisted and useless. He underwent regular, gruelling and often dangerous operations that made medical history and gradually improved his life. In infancy, his nose was built from cartilage in his toes.

Hoge has survivor/transformer planet, Pluto, at the apex of a T-square ruling his Scorpio Ascendant (signifying his reconstructed face). His memoir, Ugly, is about growing up ugly and disabled. Deformative and reformative Saturn is conjunct his Venus, the planet of beauty and values -- both planets in literary Gemini. Through his writings and website (www.roberthoge.com), Hoge advocates for the better treatment of people discriminated against because they are considered ugly. His Pluto is in the last degree of discriminative Virgo. The Sun in the first degree of Leo acts as Final Dispositor. The love and support of his family helped him to overcome incredible hardships.

Data Update: Theodore Dreiser, 1871–1945 (American novelist, journalist)

* Theodore Dreiser's autobiography of his youth contains his time of birth, raising the Rodden Rating of his data from "C" to "A."

Theodore Herman Albert Dreiser (August 27, 1871 – December 28, 1945) was an American novelist and journalist of the naturalist school. His novels often featured main characters who succeeded at their objectives despite a lack of a firm moral code, and literary situations that more closely resemble studies of nature than tales of choice and agency. Dreiser's best known novels include Sister Carrie (1900) and An American Tragedy (1925).
