Brian Mulroney (Canadian businessman, politician and lawyer)

* Brian Mulroney was the 18th Prime Minister of Canada from 17 September 1984 to 25 June 1993.

In his Memoirs he quotes his mother's diary for a birth time of 10:17pm, giving him a Scorpio ascendant, with its ruler Pluto trine his close Sun-Moon conjunction at 29 Pisces-00 Aries.

The Pluto factor probably facilitated his overseeing of the passage of the unpopular Goods and Services Tax.

Justin Bieber (Canadian pop musician, actor, singer-songwriter)

* In her 2012 autobiography, Pattie Mallette states that her son, Justin Bieber, was born "around one in the morning on Tuesday, March 1, 1994, at St. Joseph's Hospital in London, Ontario, Canada." The unsourced birth time of "12.56 a.m." in Chas Newkey-Burden's 2010 Justin Bieber: The Unauthorized Biography is thus consistent with the info' provided by Mallette. Her statement also clarifies where the pop star was born. With a powerhouse combo of Pluto rising on an Ascendant in the last degree of Scorpio, Bieber is "the third-most powerful celebrity in the world."

Emily Carr, 1871–1945 (Canadian artist and writer)

* Emily Carr ― "an artist of stunning originality and strength"1 ― had ingenious Uranus in the ultra powerful and creative first degree of Leo conjunct her MC, plus artistic Venus rising in forceful Scorpio.

WIKIPEDIA BIOGRAPHY

Emily Carr (December 13, 1871 – March 2, 1945) was heavily inspired by the indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast. One of the first painters in Canada to adopt a modernist and post-impressionist painting style, Carr did not receive widespread recognition for her work until later in her life. As she matured, the subject matter of her painting shifted from aboriginal themes to landscapes, and in particular, forest scenes. As a writer, Carr was one of the earliest chroniclers of life in British Columbia. The Canadian Encyclopedia describes her as a "Canadian icon".

SOURCE: Sy Scholfield (c) quotes Emily Carr, Growing Pains: The Autobiography of Emily Carr (Vancouver: Douglas & McIntyre, 2005): "The [family] bible says that I was born on the thirteenth day of December, 1871" (p. 20); "NURSE RANDAL HAS told me of my first birthday. I was born during a mid-December snow storm; the north wind howled and bit. Contrary from the start, I kept the family in suspense all day. A row of sparrows, puffed with cold, sat on the rail of the balcony outside Mother's window, bracing themselves against the danger of being blown into the drifted snow piled against the window. Icicles hung, wind moaned, I dallied. At three in the morning I sent Father plowing on foot through knee-deep snow to fetch Nurse Randal. I never did feel that it was necessary to apologize to my father for being late. It made variety for him, seeing that he always got his way in everything ― when father commanded everybody ran" (p. 22).

Harry Wickwire Foster (News Astrology data and chart)

* Harry Wickwire Foster - who presided over the court martial of Canada’s top prisoner of war - was born shortly after midnight, 2 April 1902, after his father exclaimed to his mother, "Janie! Control yourself. I'll not have our firstborn arrive on April Fools!"

Major General Harry Wickwire Foster, CBE, DSO, (April 2, 1902 – August 6, 1964) was a Canadian Army officer who commanded two Canadian army divisions during World War II. He served in both the Pacific and European theatres.

After the [second world] war, Foster (with four brigadiers) presided over the court martial of Canada’s top prisoner of war, SS General Kurt Meyer. The trial was a showcase for Canada, the first time that the country had conducted an international prosecution of this sort. Meyer was found guilty of three of five charges and sentenced to death. The sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment. When asked by his son (author Tony Foster) why the death sentence had been imposed he replied, "Because I had no choice according to those rules of warfare dreamt up by a bunch of bloody barrack-room lawyers who had never heard a shot fired in anger."

John Glassco (New Astrology data and chart)

* A biographer of John Glassco reveals that the Canadian writer was born shortly after midnight.

John Glassco (December 15, 1909 – January 29, 1981) was a Canadian poet, memoirist and novelist. "Glassco will be remembered for his brilliant autobiography, his elegant, classical poems, and for his translations." He is also remembered by some for his erotica.

Born in Montreal to a monied family, John Glassco (Buffy to his friends) was educated at Selwyn House School, Bishop's College School, Lower Canada College, and finally McGill University.[2] At McGill he moved on the fringes of the Montreal Group of poets centred on that campus, which included F.R. Scott and A.J.M. Smith. Glassco wrote for the McGill Fortnightly Review with Scott, Smith, and Leon Edel.

Glassco left McGill without graduating to go to Paris with his friend, Graeme Taylor, when he was 17 years old. The two settled in the Montparnasse district of Paris which was then extremely popular amongst the literary intelligentsia. Their three-year stay formed the basis of Glassco's Memoirs of Montparnasse (1970), a description of expatriate life in Paris during the 1920s.

The book is presented as a genuine memoir, although Glassco had lightly fictionalized some aspects of the work. In it, he describes meeting various celebrities who were living in or passing through Paris at the time, such as James Joyce, Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, Alice B. Toklas, Ford Maddox Ford, Frank Harris, Lord Alfred Douglas and others. In the notes to the republished edition in 2007 further characters are identified as thinly disguised descriptions of Man Ray, Peggy Guggenheim and others.

Glassco, a bisexual, was, in the words of Leon Edel, “a bit frightened by certain kinds of women and nearly always delighted if he could establish a triangle.”

In 1931 Glassco contracted tuberculosis. He returned to Canada and was hospitalized. In 1935, after having a lung removed, he retired to the town of Foster in Quebec's Eastern Townships. He served as mayor of Foster from 1952 to 1954.

F. R. Scott (New Astrology data and chart)

* Canadian poet F.R. Scott's father wrote in his diary that his son was born at "5:50" and that he slept that afternoon so presumably the birth happened in the morning.

Francis Reginald Scott, CC, commonly known as Frank Scott or F. R. Scott (August 1, 1899 – January 30, 1985), was a Canadian poet, intellectual and constitutional expert. He helped found the first Canadian social democratic party, the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, and its successor, the New Democratic Party. He won Canada's top literary prize, the Governor General's Award, twice, once for poetry and once for non-fiction. He was married to artist Marian Dale Scott.

BIRTH DATA: 1 August 1899, O5:50 (5:50 a.m.), EST (+5), Quebec, Canada (46n49, 71w14). ASC: 23 Leo. RR=AA (from father's diary). SOURCE: Sy Scholfield (c) quotes Sandra Djwa, The Politics of the Imagination: A Life of F.R. Scott (Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, 1987), p. 14: "ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 1, 1899, the Reverend F.G. Scott wrote in his diary:'Little Boy born at 5.50. Slept in afternoon. Dinner to Do-bell's.'" NB: His father did not state a.m. or p.m. but 5:50 p.m. would have been late afternoon not leaving much time for afternoon sleeping so presumably his son was born in the a.m.

Patrick Roy (New Astrology data and chart)

* Michel Roy's biography of his son Patrick Roy includes the ice hockey goaltender's time of birth.

Patrick Jacques Roy (born October 5, 1965) is a former Canadian ice hockey goaltender. Nicknamed "Saint Patrick," Roy split his professional career between the Montreal Canadiens, whom he played with for 10 years, and Colorado Avalanche, whom he played with for 8 years, both of the National Hockey League. Roy won two Stanley Cups with each franchise. In 2004, Roy was selected as the greatest goaltender in NHL history by a panel of 41 writers, coupled with a simultaneous fan poll. On November 13, 2006, Roy was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.[4] He is the only player in NHL history to win the Conn Smythe Trophy (the award given to the most valuable player in the Stanley Cup playoffs) 3 times and also in different decades. Roy is widely credited with popularising the butterfly style of goaltending, which has since become associated with goalies from Roy's native Quebec. Roy's #33 is retired by the Canadiens and Avalanche. He is currently the co-owner, general manager, and head coach of the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Uranus-Pluto in Virgo on the MC looks good for goaltending, as does Mars rising ruled by an unaspected Jupiter in the 8th House. Very defensive!
