Rue McClanahan, 1934–2010 (American actress, comedian, author, fashion designer)

* Rue McClanahan's birth certificate has been published on the official website of her estate, showing the time of birth recorded as 7pm and her name as "Eddi-Rue McClanahan." Previously, Frank Clifford quoted a written form filled in by her, with a time of 7:30pm from her mother's memory.

The time of 7pm puts Neptune and the Moon very close to the Ascendant and MC respectively. McClanahan won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1987 for her role as Blanche Devereaux on The Golden Girls (1985–1992).

Lou Diamond Phillips (American actor and director)

* Lou Diamond Phillips' big breakthrough came when he starred in the 1987 film La Bamba as the Chicano rock 'n' roll star Ritchie Valens. Phillips earned a supporting actor Golden Globe Award nomination for his role as a gangster in Stand and Deliver (1988) and a Tony Award nomination for his role as the King in The King and I (1996). In 2007, Phillips joined the touring troupe for Lerner and Loewe's Camelot in the role of King Arthur.

Phillips is very close to the Native American community. In 1990, he was adopted by the Sioux tribe, although he is Cherokee by blood. "Star Keeper" is his Sioux name.

Phillips has an overload of solar energy in his chart which reflects his success in regal roles (and perhaps the choice of his stellar Sioux name): Moon in Leo in the 12th (the house of film), Leo North Node right on his Leo Ascendant, and Uranus in Leo ruling and opposing his Sun from the 1st house (in Mutual Reception).

Robin Roberts (American television broadcaster)

* Robin Roberts – anchor of the TV show Good Morning America – has communicator Mercury on her MC. Just over a week ago she came out on her Facebook profile, by mentioning her "long time girlfriend, Amber," on the day that the transiting Moon crossed her natal Sun, and transiting Venus retrograded on her natal Ascendant. Last Monday, as transiting Venus exactly conjunct her Pallas-Ascendant, Roberts shared the first public photo of Amber. Roberts has been treated for breast cancer and for myelodysplastic syndrome. She has Pluto – the survivor planet – on her North Node, sextile Mercury, ruler of her 6th House of health issues.

Sachin Tendulkar (Indian cricketer)

* Sachin Tendulkar is widely acknowledged as the greatest batsman of his generation. The doctor who delivered him on 24 April 1973 reveals in an interview that Tendulkar was born at 1 p.m.
The "god of cricket" has the sporty/religious Sagittarian decan of Leo on his Ascendant ruled by the masterly Sun on the MC.

Bill Hughes (American jazz trombonist and bandleader)

* Bill Hughes was born in Dallas, Texas, and his family moved to Washington, D.C., when he was nine years old. Hughes has spent most of his career with the Count Basie Orchestra and was the director of that ensemble from 2003 until September 2010.

Hughes has Neptune in the 12th House, conjunct his Ascendant and ruling his Mars and Moon in Pisces.

* Sonny Fisher was one of America's pioneering rockabilly artists. He never achieved anything more than regional stardom in the US during the 1950s yet, when London's Ace Records reissued his 1956 recordings in 1979, he found himself proclaimed king of the rockabilly revival.

Van Williams (American actor, "The Green Hornet")

* Van Williams is best known for his starring role as Britt Reid/the Green Hornet in the hit American TV series The Green Hornet (1966–1967).

Williams has double-identity Mercury in Pisces ruling his Gemini MC.

The late Bruce Lee played opposite Williams as the Green Hornet's partner, Kato. William's Virgo Ascendant is conjunct Lee's MC.

Lawrence Ferlinghetti (American poet, painter, activist, publisher)

* Lawrence Ferlinghetti is the co-founder of City Lights, an independent bookstore-publisher in San Francisco, California that specializes in world literature, the arts, and progressive politics. An author of poetry, translations, fiction, theatre, art criticism, and film narration, Ferlinghetti is best known for A Coney Island of the Mind (1958), a collection of poems that has been translated into nine languages, with sales of over one million copies. He is also famous for his trial and acquittal on obscenity charges for publishing Allen Ginsberg's influential poetry collection Howl and Other Poems (City Lights, 1956).

Ferlinghetti has a tight Cardinal T-square involving an opposition between the Moon and Pluto-Jupiter, with Chiron-Sun in Aries at the apex (ruled by Mars in Aries on the Descendant).

Though imbued with the commonplace, Ferlinghetti’s poetry is grounded in lyric and narrative traditions. Among his themes are the beauty of natural world, the tragicomic life of the common man, the plight of the individual in mass society, and the dream and betrayal of democracy. Elliott Smith,1969–2003 (American singer-songwriter, musician)

* Elliott Smith's heartbreaking songs were rendered all the more haunting by his tragic death.

He had Venus and the Moon in mutual reception with Venus ruling his Ascendant in the last degree of Taurus and the Moon conjunct his Ascendant.

Venus is squared by Pluto, Uranus and Jupiter, not to mention the quincunx from Mars: He came to fame with his song "Miss Misery."

Perhaps Mars in conjunction with Neptune, both descending, along with the Sun in Leo on the IC, brought him down and contributed to his undoing.

Smith was born in Omaha, Nebraska, raised primarily in Texas, and resided for a significant portion of his life in Portland, Oregon, the area in which he first gained popularity. Smith's primary instrument was the guitar, but he was also proficient with piano, clarinet, bass guitar, drums and harmonica. Smith had a distinctive vocal style, characterized by his "whispery, spiderweb-thin delivery", and used multi-tracking to create vocal layers, textures and harmonies.

After playing in the rock band Heatmiser for several years, Smith began his solo career in 1994, with releases on the independent record labels Cavity Search and Kill Rock Stars (KRS). In 1997, he signed a contract with DreamWorks Records, the label for which he recorded two albums. Smith rose to mainstream prominence when his song "Miss Misery"—included in the soundtrack for the film Good Will Hunting—was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Original Song category in 1998.

Smith suffered from depression, alcoholism and drug dependence, and these topics often appear in his lyrics. At age 34, he died in Los Angeles, California from two stab wounds to the chest. The autopsy evidence was inconclusive as to whether the wounds were self-inflicted. At the time of his death, Smith was working on his sixth studio album, From a Basement on the Hill, which was posthumously completed and released.

Carolyn Jones, 1930–1983 (American actress)

* Carolyn Jones — the beautiful actress remembered by many for her role as the sexy, sedate and sombre Morticia Addams in the mid-1960s TV series The Addams Family (seen here at left dressed in her trademark black tatters, sitting in her fan-back chair) — had her luminaries in sedentary Taurus in the 8th House trined by Saturn in Capricorn in the matriarchal 4th House. Pluto in Cancer opposes Saturn: Her name "Morticia" implies "death" (mors mortis is Latin for "death"), while Morticia's maiden name is "Frump." She has an older sister named Ophelia (also played by Jones).

Carolyn Sue Jones (April 28, 1930 – August 3, 1983) began her film career in the early 1950s, and by the end of the decade had achieved recognition with a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for The Bachelor Party (1957) and a Golden Globe Award as one of the most promising actresses of 1959. Her film career continued for another 20 years. In 1964 she began playing the role of Morticia Addams in the television series The Addams Family, receiving a Golden Globe Award nomination for her work.

Jane Avril, 1868–1943 (French can-can dancer)

* Jane Avril was the extremely thin can-can dancer made famous by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec through his paintings. Nicknamed La Mélinite after an explosive ― because she was "given to jerky movements and sudden contortions" ― Avril had a detonative Mars-Pluto conjunction straddling her Descendant with Pluto opposite and ruling her Scorpio Ascendant. Nicole Kidman, the Australian actor nominated for an Oscar for her semi-fictionalized portayal of Avril in Baz Luhrmann's 2001 musical,Moulin Rouge!, also has a Gemini Sun and Scorpio rising.

Jane Avril's mother was a courtesan and her absent father, allegedly, was a foreign aristocrat. Abused as a child, she ran away from home, and was eventually admitted to the Salpêtrière Hospital, with the movement disorder 'St Vitus' Dance' (now thought to be Sydenham's Chorea). Under the care of Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot, the expert on "female hysterics" she received various kinds of treatment, and claimed in her biography that, when she discovered dance at a social dance for employees and patients at the hospital, she was cured. On leaving the hospital, after a failed romance, Jeanne thought to kill herself, but was taken in by the Madame of a Parisian brothel.

Working at whatever day jobs were available, at night she pursued a career in dancing by performing at local clubs. Using the stage name Jane Avril, she built a reputation that eventually allowed her to make a living as a full-time dancer. Hired by the Moulin Rouge nightclub in 1889, within a few years she headlined at the Jardin de Paris, one of the major café-concerts on the Champs-Élysées. To advertise the extravaganza, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec painted her portrait on a poster that elevated her stature in the entertainment world even further.

In 1895, the owners of the Moulin Rouge offered her a great deal of money to take on the risky task of replacing Louise Weber, the most famous dancer in Paris, known by her stage name as "La Goulue". Graceful, soft-spoken, and melancholic, Jane Avril gave a dance presentation that was the opposite of the very boisterous La Goulue. Nevertheless, the club's patrons adored her and she became one of the most recognizable names of the Parisian nightlife.

A woman of intelligence and with a sense of aloof grace, at age 42 she met and married the German artist, Maurice Biais (c.1875–1926), and the couple moved to a home in Jouy-en-Josas at the outskirts of Paris. However, her husband soon began to stray, often disappearing for days at a time, and for years she lived a miserable existence with the irresponsible Biais. Without any financial support following his death in 1926, Avril lived in near poverty on what little was left of her savings.

Jane Avril died in a seniors' home in 1943 at the age of 75. She was interred in the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.

Juan Gris, 1887-1927 (Spanish painter and sculptor)

* A biography of Juan Gris reveals that the iconic painter was born at 7 p.m.

Juan Gris (March 23, 1887 – May 11, 1927) was a Spanish painter and sculptor who lived and worked in France most of his life. His works, which are closely connected to an innovative artistic genre — Cubism — are among the movement's most distinctive.

At first Gris painted in the analytic style of Cubism, but after 1913 he began his conversion to synthetic Cubism, of which he became a steadfast interpreter, with extensive use of papier collé or, collage. Unlike Picasso and Braque, whose Cubist works were monochromatic, Gris painted with bright harmonious colors in daring, novel combinations in the manner of his friend Matisse. Gris exhibited with the painters of the Puteaux Group in the Salon de la Section d'Or in 1912. His preference for clarity and order influenced the Purist style of Amédée Ozenfant and Charles Edouard Jeanneret (Le Corbusier), and made Gris an important exemplar of the post-war "return to order" movement.

Hippolyte Bayard, 1801-1887 (photographer, pioneer)

* Hippolyte Bayard's birth record reveals he was born at "trois heures du matin" (three in the morning). Famous for his Self Portrait as a Drowned Man, he had Neptune rising in Scorpio in mutual reception with Pluto in Pisces.

Hippolyte Bayard (20 January 1801 – 14 May 1887) was a French photographer; a pioneer in the history of photography. He invented his own process known as direct positive printing and presented the world's first public exhibition of photographs on 24 June 1839. He claimed to have invented photography earlier than Louis-Jacques Mandé Daguerre in France and William Henry Fox Talbot in England, the men traditionally credited with its invention.

R.D. Burman, a.k.a. Pancham (New Astrology data and chart)

* We can calculate Bollywood-composer R.D. Burman's birth data from the Charubel & Sepharial Ascendant degree given in his biography.

Rahul Dev Burman (27 June 1939 – 4 January 1994) was an Indian film score composer, who is considered one of the seminal music directors of the Indian film industry. Nicknamed Pancham da, he was the only son of the illustrious composer Sachin Dev Burman.

From the 1960s to the 1990s, RD Burman composed scores for 331 movies. He was mainly active in the Hindi film industry (Bollywood) as a composer, and also provided vocals for a few of compositions. RD Burman did major work with Asha Bhosle (his wife) and Kishore Kumar, and scored many of the songs that made these singers famous. He served as an influence to the next generation of Indian music directors, and his songs continue to be popular in India even after his death.
