Hayley Okines,1997–2015 (English girl with progeria, an extremely rare aging disease)

* Hayley Okines was known for spreading awareness of progeria, a genetic disease that caused her to age eight times faster than the average person.

Although the average life expectancy for sufferers is 13 years, Hayley was part of a drug trial that had seen her surpass doctors' predictions of her projected lifespan.

However, she died on 2 April 2015 at the age of 17 due to complications of pneumonia, having lived four years beyond doctors' initial predictions.

CJ de Mooi (English professional quizzer, chess player, television personality)

* CJ de Mooi is best known as a panellist on the BBC television show Eggheads. He adopted the name de Mooi when modelling; he translates it as Dutch for "handsome", though a more literal translation would be "the beautiful".

In his 2015 autobiography, de Mooi reveals that once upon a time he was a sex worker in London, and that he believes he once killed a man, after punching him and throwing him in a canal in Amsterdam.

Pluto conjunct Moon plus three planets in Scorpio indeed!

She won a modelling competition in Perth at 18, and later modelled for various Italian fashion houses and appeared in several Italian films. SOURCE: Sy Scholfield quotes Gale for her rising sign in "Princess Diary," Sunday Telegraph [Sydney], 12 Nov. 2006: "I'm a Leo but I think my true self is more like my rising sign, Taurus. I find my Leo qualities emerge when I'm working: I'm more flamboyant, more ambitious, confident and driven. At home I'm more Taurean: a bit earthier, but always stubborn."

NOTE: Taurus was rising from 12am to 2:02am and from 11:36pm to 12 midnight. The time of 1am is speculative. The Moon was in Leo throughout these periods.

Ferdinando de' Medici, 1663–1713 (Italian patron of the arts and music)

* Ferdinando de' Medici, Grand Prince of Tuscany, is remembered today primarily as a patron of music.

An excellent musician himself (sometimes called "the Orpheus of princes"), he attracted top musicians (like the Baroque composers Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti) to Florence and thus made it an important musical centre. Moreover, through his patronage of Bartolomeo Cristofori, Ferdinando made possible the invention of the piano in 1700. All this courtesy of Neptune unaspected on his MC.

Baccio Bandinelli (Italian Renaissance sculptor, draughtsman and painter)

* Pluto and its sign Scorpio are associated with intense jealousy. Baccio Bandinelli had Pluto in Scorpio opposite his Ascendant (smack-bang on his 7th cusp) ruling the Sun in the last degree of Scorpio (also in the 7th). Notorious for his envy (of other artists), he obsessively imitated the works of Michelangelo whom he saw as a rival, and he tried to sabotage Benvenuto Cellini's career. Bandinelli's Venus (arts, values, relationships) ruled his Ascendant from Pluto's domain: the 8th House. His Venus was also conjunct Michelangelo's Ascendant.
NATAL DATA and ASTROLOGY CHART

BIRTH DATA: Bartolommeo Brandini, 12 November 1493 OS, 15:25 (3:25 PM) LMT (-0:45), Florence, Italy (43n46, 11e15). ASC: 8 Taurus. RR: B (from biography, but birth records are indicated). SOURCE: Sy Scholfield cites birth documents quoted in "Baccio Bandinelli and art at the Medici court: a corpus of early modern sources, Volume 251" by Louis Alexander Waldman (American Philosophical Society, 2004), p. 7: "born in Florence (an hour before sunset) and baptized the following day . . . In the earlier literature BB's birthdate was often given as 1488, based on the erroneous assumption that the baptismal record of his uncle, Bartolomeo di Viviano di Bartolomeo, dated 7 October 1488 (Doc. 11), referred to him. In the 'Libri d'età' of the Archivio delle Tratte, however, the correct birthdate is corroborated: 'Messer Bartolomeo di Michelagnolo di Viviano Bandinelli adì 12 di novembre 1493' (ASF, Tratte, 81 [ex 444bis], fol. 9). 21. 1493, November 13." Scholfield calculates sunset at 4:25pm so an hour earlier makes 3:25pm.

David Pogue (American technology writer, TV science presenter)

* David Pogue is a personal technology columnist for Yahoo Tech, a tech correspondent for CBS News Sunday Morning, a columnist for Scientific American and a former technology columnist for The New York Times. Venus in techno-savvy Aquarius rules his Taurus Ascendant. Pogue has written or co-written seven books in the For Dummies series (including Macintosh computers, magic, opera, and classical music). These books all have Neptunian themes: Pogue's angular Neptune rules and trines his Sun-Jupiter conjunction in Pisces. Perhaps Mercury in the first degree of Pisces explains his interest in numerology.
NATAL DATA and ASTROLOGY CHART

Conchita Wurst (Austrian singer, fashion designer, gender illusionist)

* In May 2014 Conchita Wurst (AKA Tom Neuwirth) won the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen with the song "Rise Like a Phoenix." An apt song title for her Scorpio stellium, including Sun conjunct Pluto. The gorgeous Conchita has Taurus rising ruled by Venus conjunct the Moon in Libra, surely showing excellent prospects for her fashion design career. With her trademark beard, she has an unusual appearance that challenges traditional concepts of gender and sexuality: Uranus in the 8th House quincunxes her Ascendant and in turn is ruled by Jupiter in her 1st House.

Mick Fanning (Australian professional surfer)

* Mick Fanning has recently become a triple world surfing champion, having won the 2007, 2009 and 2013 ASP World Tours.

His Taurus Ascendant is ruled by Venus (conjunct Mercury) in watery Cancer, indicating a love of the ocean. Venus is in mutual reception with the Moon in Libra, surely keeping him balanced on his surfboard. Fanning is nicknamed "White Lightning" because his style is lightning fast: electrical Uranus in powerful Scorpio squares and rules his MC.

Check out the awesome pipeline and rip-curl shots on his website (www.mickfanning.com.au).

Grayson Perry (English artist)

* Grayson Perry, CBE, is known mainly for his ceramic vases and cross-dressing. Perry's vases have classical forms and are decorated in bright colours, depicting subjects at odds with their attractive appearance. There is a strong autobiographical element in his work, in which images of Perry as "Claire", his female alter-ego, often appear. He was awarded the Turner Prize in 2003, the first time it was given to a ceramic artist. He attended the award ceremony dressed as Claire, wearing a little girl party frock. Perry has Taurus rising, ruled by Venus in Pisces in the offbeat 11th House. Double-identity Mercury is conjunct his Venus and both are ruled and trined by Neptune in Scorpio on the Descendant, explaining the sexually explicit content of much of his work.
Data for his chart comes from his autobiography (details below, courtesy of Andrea Miles).

Jimmy Duncan, 1927-2011 (American songwriter, singer, composer, author)

* Jimmy Duncan is best known for his 1957 song "My Special Angel," a No.1 country/western hit for Bobby Helms. Duncan also co-wrote "String Along", which charted in 1960 for Fabian and in 1963 for Ricky Nelson; and "Everybody Knows", a minor hit in 1964 for Steve Lawrence. In the late 1960s Duncan owned a rock club in Houston named "The Living Eye"; nationally known groups such as the Electric Prunes and ? and the Mysterians played there, as well as local groups such as Lemon Fog. In 1970 Duncan built a recording studio called "Soundville" in Houston and launched his own label, Soundville.

Elliott Smith,1969–2003 (American singer-songwriter, musician)

* Elliott Smith's heartbreaking songs were rendered all the more haunting by his tragic death.

He had Venus and the Moon in mutual reception with Venus ruling his Ascendant in the last degree of Taurus and the Moon conjunct his Ascendant.

Venus is squared by Pluto, Uranus and Jupiter, not to mention the quincunx from Mars: He came to fame with his song "Miss Misery."

Perhaps Mars in conjunction with Neptune, both descending, along with the Sun in Leo on the IC, brought him down and contributed to his undoing.

WIKIPEDIA BLURB

Smith was born in Omaha, Nebraska, raised primarily in Texas, and resided for a significant portion of his life in Portland, Oregon, the area in which he first gained popularity. Smith's primary instrument was the guitar, but he was also proficient with piano, clarinet, bass guitar, drums and harmonica. Smith had a distinctive vocal style, characterized by his "whispery, spiderweb-thin delivery", and used multi-tracking to create vocal layers, textures and harmonies.

After playing in the rock band Heatmiser for several years, Smith began his solo career in 1994, with releases on the independent record labels Cavity Search and Kill Rock Stars (KRS). In 1997, he signed a contract with DreamWorks Records, the label for which he recorded two albums. Smith rose to mainstream prominence when his song "Miss Misery"—included in the soundtrack for the film Good Will Hunting—was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Original Song category in 1998.

Smith suffered from depression, alcoholism and drug dependence, and these topics often appear in his lyrics. At age 34, he died in Los Angeles, California from two stab wounds to the chest. The autopsy evidence was inconclusive as to whether the wounds were self-inflicted. At the time of his death, Smith was working on his sixth studio album, From a Basement on the Hill, which was posthumously completed and released.

Capucine, 1928-1990 (French fashion model, actress, suicide)

* Capucine - the beautiful comedienne - was best known for her comedic roles in the feline-titled films, The Pink Panther (1963) and What's New Pussycat? (1965). Funnily enough, she had cinematic Neptune in Leo, the sign of the Lion/ess - without close aspects - except for a square to lovely Venus in side-splitting Sagittarius which ruled her Taurus Ascendant. Tragically, a quarter century after she hit the heights of stardom, Capucine jumped from her eighth-floor apartment to her death. Perhaps her suicidal fall was a symptom of her Capricorn Sun on the MC opposite Pluto on her IC?

Many thanks to Marc Brun for sending me her birth certificate.

WIKIPEDIA BLURB

Capucine (6 January 1928 – 17 March 1990) appeared in 36 films and 17 television productions between 1948 and 1990.

In her teens, she became a fashion model, working for fashion houses Givenchy and Christian Dior. She adopted the name, "Capucine" (French for nasturtium). She met Hollywood actress Audrey Hepburn modeling in Givenchy (with whom Hepburn was best friends and whose muse she was) in Paris. The two would remain close friends for the rest of Capucine's life.

On the set of Rendez-vous (1949), she met Pierre Trabaud; they married the next year. The marriage lasted only eight months, and Capucine never married again. She met actor William Holden in the early 1960s. They starred in the films The Lion (1962) and The 7th Dawn (1964). Holden was married to Brenda Marshall, but the two began a two-year affair. After the affair ended, she and Holden remained friends until Holden's death in 1981.

On 17 March 1990, Capucine jumped from her eighth-floor apartment in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she had lived for 28 years, having reportedly suffered from illness and depression for some time.

Anita Garibaldi, 1821–1849 (Brazilian revolutionary)

* Anita Garibaldi ― who joined the revolutionary cause and transformed the life of Giuseppe Garibaldi, the man who united Italy in 1860 ― had Pluto at 29° Pisces (in the last degree of its Scorpio decan) on the cusp of the revolutionary 11th House ruled by Neptune on the cusp of the transformative 8th.

Ana Maria de Jesus Ribeiro di Garibaldi, best known as Anita Garibaldi, (August 30, 1821 – August 4, 1849) was the Brazilian wife and comrade-in-arms of Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi. Their partnership epitomized the spirit of the 19th century's age of romanticism and revolutionary liberalism.

Xiao Qian, 1910-1999 (Chinese writer, literary figure)

* For some Taurus-rising folk discovering the details of their birth can be a long and slow process. Xiao Qian ― one of China's finest writers ― did not find out his Western birthdate until he was almost 70. Apparently Venus ruling from the first degree of Pisces kept the information hidden. Xiao, who wrote over six million words in one series of books, had MC conjunct Mercury and the Sun, the latter ruling his 3rd House.

Wikipedia Biography

Xiao Qian (27 January 1910 – 11 February 1999) was a famous essayist, editor, journalist and translator from China. His life spanned the country before and after the establishment of the People's Republic of China.

As a journalist, he wrote a variety of publications. One of them is his book: xin bian wen shi biji cong shu. The series contains 50 books, in which 6,000,000 words were written. These series were written between the 1980s and early 1990s. The books collected a range of anecdotes and highlights from over 2000 celebrities and researchers. The series became highly reputable and widely accepted when it was released. As the last volume of the series was published in October 1994, another edition of the series were published in Hong Kong and Taiwan shortly after. The work was awarded the "Chinese Book Prize" as early as in 1993.

Written by Xiao between 1939 and 1946, the books, Symphony of Contradictions, Bloody September, and London under Silver Kites reflected his experience during the Second World War while he was living in the United Kingdom and Western Europe. They were mostly concerned with the day to day life of ordinary English citizens. They contained an analysis or speculation about political and military matters. While he was impressed by the determination of the English to defeat Germany, he also observed their negative cultural traits.

NATAL DATA and ASTROLOGY CHART

BIRTH DATA: Xiao Bingqian, 27 January 1910, 12:00 (12 noon), LMT (-7:45:40), Beijing, China (39n55, 116e25). ASC: 24 Taurus. RR: A (from his aunt's memory). SOURCE: Sy Scholfield (c) quotes Xiao Qian, Traveller Without a Map [1990]. Trans. Jeffrey C. Kinkley (Stanford University Press, 1993), pp. 1-4: "the north-eastern slums of Peking where I was born . . . But every year, when the seventeenth day of the last lunar month came round, my elders would tell me I'd grown a year older. . . 'You were born in the first year of the Xuantong Emperor [Puyi]' she [my mother] told me. . . an aunt said crossly, 'Gracious, no wonder you noon-born cocks are called troublemakers! (Roosters are supposed to disturb people in the morning, not at mid-day). With that I even knew what time of day I was born . . . Professor Hans Frankel took down a book of conversion tables from his shelf and pinpointed the date of my birth in the Western calendar as 27 January 1910. It took him only a minute or two but the information was very welcome. It came just in time for my seventieth birthday, which otherwise I might very well have missed."
