Larry L. King, 1929–2012 (American playwright, journalist, and novelist)

* Larry L. King is best remembered for his 1978 Tony Award-nominated play The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which became a long-running production on Broadway and was later turned into a feature film starring Burt Reynolds, Charles Durning and Dolly Parton.

In 1974, he wrote an article about the Chicken Ranch brothel in La Grange, Texas; after the article was published in Playboy, King and fellow Texan Peter Masterson developed it into the book of the Broadway musical.

King received an Emmy Award in 1982 for the CBS documentary The Best Little Statehouse in Texas.

King died on 20 December 2012, at a retirement home in Washington, D. C., survived by his third wife, five children, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Hayley Okines,1997–2015 (English girl with progeria, an extremely rare aging disease)

* Hayley Okines was known for spreading awareness of progeria, a genetic disease that caused her to age eight times faster than the average person.

Although the average life expectancy for sufferers is 13 years, Hayley was part of a drug trial that had seen her surpass doctors' predictions of her projected lifespan.

However, she died on 2 April 2015 at the age of 17 due to complications of pneumonia, having lived four years beyond doctors' initial predictions.

Naomi Watts (British actress)

* Naomi Watts was raised in England and Wales before moving to Sydney, Australia in 1982, aged 14. Whle enrolled in acting lessons in Sydney she befriended actress Nicole Kidman. (Watts and Kidman both have Scorpio rising; Watts' Venus -- ruler of her 7th House of influential relationships -- is conjunct Kidman's Ascendant). Around 1992, Watts spent a year travelling, visiting Los Angeles and being introduced to agents through Kidman.

After years as a struggling actress, Watts came to international attention in David Lynch's psychological thriller Mulholland Drive (2001). (Her success through persistence and hard work is indicated by her chart's Saturn-handled Slingshot, Bucket Shape and Yod in the 6th House of work).

Watts received nominations at the Academy Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards in the Best Actress categories for her portrayal of Cristina Peck in Alejandro González Iñárritu's neo-noir 21 Grams (2003) and for her leading role as Maria Bennett in the disaster film The Impossible (2012).

George Takei (American "Star Trek" actor, social media star, human rights activist)

* With his Aquarian Ascendant ruled by a virtually unaspected Uranus, George Takei embodies the Uranian spirit of science fiction culture, internet media, humanitarian politics and a unique sense of humour. Moreover, Mars in Sagittarius on his MC rules his Sun in the last degree of Aries, making him an outspoken pioneer and successful leader in these fields.

Takei is most widely known for his role as Lieutenant Sulu, helmsman of the spaceship Enterprise in the sci-fi TV series Star Trek (1966-1969) and six Star Trek feature films (1979-1991). Today he is a regular on the science fiction convention circuit throughout the world.

Takei came out publicly as gay in October 2005. In 2006, he embarked on a nationwide "Equality Trek" speaking tour sharing his life as a gay Japanese American, his 18-year relationship with (his now-husband) Brad Altman, and experiences on Star Trek, encouraging others to share their own personal stories. In 2008, Takei and Altman became the first same-sex couple to apply for a marriage licence in West Hollywood, and they were married on 14 September 2008.

Takei joined Facebook in 2011 and today his daily posts of humorous pictures (many of which are related to sci-fi, gay culture and political satire) have attracted over 8 million followers, such that he has been lauded as "the funniest guy on Facebook."

On his website, Takei declares: "My name is George Takei. Some know me as Mr. Sulu but I hope all know me as a believer in, and a fighter for, the equality and dignity of all human beings." Astrologically, his words and actions reveal him as a herald of the Age of Aquarius.

Baccio Bandinelli (Italian Renaissance sculptor, draughtsman and painter)

* Pluto and its sign Scorpio are associated with intense jealousy. Baccio Bandinelli had Pluto in Scorpio opposite his Ascendant (smack-bang on his 7th cusp) ruling the Sun in the last degree of Scorpio (also in the 7th). Notorious for his envy (of other artists), he obsessively imitated the works of Michelangelo whom he saw as a rival, and he tried to sabotage Benvenuto Cellini's career. Bandinelli's Venus (arts, values, relationships) ruled his Ascendant from Pluto's domain: the 8th House. His Venus was also conjunct Michelangelo's Ascendant.
NATAL DATA and ASTROLOGY CHART

BIRTH DATA: Bartolommeo Brandini, 12 November 1493 OS, 15:25 (3:25 PM) LMT (-0:45), Florence, Italy (43n46, 11e15). ASC: 8 Taurus. RR: B (from biography, but birth records are indicated). SOURCE: Sy Scholfield cites birth documents quoted in "Baccio Bandinelli and art at the Medici court: a corpus of early modern sources, Volume 251" by Louis Alexander Waldman (American Philosophical Society, 2004), p. 7: "born in Florence (an hour before sunset) and baptized the following day . . . In the earlier literature BB's birthdate was often given as 1488, based on the erroneous assumption that the baptismal record of his uncle, Bartolomeo di Viviano di Bartolomeo, dated 7 October 1488 (Doc. 11), referred to him. In the 'Libri d'età' of the Archivio delle Tratte, however, the correct birthdate is corroborated: 'Messer Bartolomeo di Michelagnolo di Viviano Bandinelli adì 12 di novembre 1493' (ASF, Tratte, 81 [ex 444bis], fol. 9). 21. 1493, November 13." Scholfield calculates sunset at 4:25pm so an hour earlier makes 3:25pm.

Jack Huddle,1928–1973 (American rockabilly musician and songwriter)

* Jack Huddle performed and recorded with Buddy Holly early in Holly's career. In 1953 Huddle gave a young Buddy Holly a break when he let him perform with his friend Jack Neal as the Buddy & Jack duo on the talentshow "Around Lubbock." On April 28, 1957, Huddle made the trip to Clovis, New Mexico, together with his friend and writing partner Jim Robinson. Buddy Holly was also there or was asked by Jack to go with him. Buddy played lead guitar on the recordings made that day: "Starlight" and "Believe Me". The instrumental break on "Starlight" was often considered as one of the most catchy guitar breaks by Buddy on a non-Buddy or non-Crickets record. The session was kicked off by Jim Robinson (Jimmie Zed Robinson) singing "Whole Lot of Lovin'" and "It's a Wonderful Feeling." After that it was Huddle's turn. Jack and Jim recorded two other songs in Clovis in 1959. "Midnight Monsters Hop" and "Tarzan and Jane". Buddy didn't play on them. Jack and Jim also wrote "Frankie Frankenstein" that was recorded in Clovis and sung by Jerry Allison, Buddy Holly's drummer.

Juke Boy Bonner, 1932–1978 (American blues singer, harmonica player, and guitarist)

* Juke Boy Bonner was influenced by Lightnin' Hopkins, Jimmy Reed, and Slim Harpo. He described the bleak prospects of black urban existence in songs like "Life is a Nightmare", "Struggle Here in Houston" and "Going Back to the Country", accompanying himself on guitar, harmonica and drums in the self-sufficient one-man band mode of Joe Hill Louis and Dr. Ross.

Bonner had Pluto in the 1st House in close trine with Mars in Pisces on the MC.

Clarence Swensen , 1917-2009 (American actor)

* Clarence Swensen was one of the last surviving Munchkins from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. Swensen was not allowed to attend a public school until he was nine, because of his size. At 4ft 6ins, he played one of the 25 Munchkin soldiers in the 1939 film. He also appeared in The Terror of Tiny Town as a preacher. Many of his "Oz" co-stars were cast members of this Western musical film.

After suffering a stroke in 2005, he was unable to walk and ended up in a wheelchair as a result. He suffered from poor health then after but still attended many events with the other surviving Munchkins, including the presentation of the Munchkins' star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007. Swensen died on February 25, 2009.

He had a Pluto Boomerang.

Robert Hoge (Australian writer, disability advocate)

* Robert Hoge has worked as a journalist, a speechwriter, a science communicator and a political advisor. His writings have been published in Australia and overseas. Hoge was born with a giant tumour on his forehead, severely distorted facial features and legs that were twisted and useless. He underwent regular, gruelling and often dangerous operations that made medical history and gradually improved his life. In infancy, his nose was built from cartilage in his toes.

Hoge has survivor/transformer planet, Pluto, at the apex of a T-square ruling his Scorpio Ascendant (signifying his reconstructed face). His memoir, Ugly, is about growing up ugly and disabled. Deformative and reformative Saturn is conjunct his Venus, the planet of beauty and values -- both planets in literary Gemini. Through his writings and website (www.roberthoge.com), Hoge advocates for the better treatment of people discriminated against because they are considered ugly. His Pluto is in the last degree of discriminative Virgo. The Sun in the first degree of Leo acts as Final Dispositor. The love and support of his family helped him to overcome incredible hardships.

Evan Rachel Wood (American actress and singer)

* Evan Rachel Wood reportedly tweeted that she was born at 1:12 p.m., but I have her birth certificate on file clearly stating 1:24 p.m. as her time of birth.

Wood has been described by The Guardian as "one of the best actresses of her generation."

She has the dramatic Sun conjunct her MC and Jupiter in the last degree of Aries in the 5th, the house of acting. The Sun and Jupiter co-rule Uranus in the Leo decan of Sagittarius in the 1st house.

WIKIPEDIA BLURB

Evan Rachel Wood began her acting career in the late 1990s, appearing in several television series, including American Gothic (1995–1996) and Once and Again (1999–2002). She made her début as a leading film actress at the age of nine in Digging to China (1998) and became well known after her transition to a more adult-oriented Golden Globe-nominated role in the teen drama film Thirteen (2003).[2] Wood continued acting mostly in independent films, including Pretty Persuasion (2005), Down in the Valley (2006), Running with Scissors (2006), and in the big studio production Across the Universe (2007). Since 2008, Wood has appeared in more mainstream films, including The Wrestler (2008), Whatever Works (2009) and The Ides of March (2011). She has also returned to television, playing the supporting role of Queen Sophie-Anne on True Blood from 2009 to 2011 and playing Kate Winslet's daughter in the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce (2011), a role for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe and Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Michael C. Hall (American actor)

* Michael C. Hall is best known for his role as the serial-killer Dexter Morgan in the Showtime TV series Dexter. Hall has won a Golden Globe award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for this role. Previously, he played David Fisher, a young man struggling with his homosexuality while following in the footsteps of his deceased mortician-father, in the HBO drama series Six Feet Under.

Hall's Aquarian Sun and Ascendant are ruled by Uranus in the 8th: the house of death, murder, mortuaries, serial-killers and sexuality issues. Pluto also resides in this house in the last degree of analytical Virgo and in quincunx with the Ascendant. Moreover, Pluto and Neptune make a Yod with the Moon. Luna is at the apex of the Yod in bloody Aries on the cusp of the Jekyll-and-Hyde 3rd house: Dexter is a blood-spatter analyst by day, and a serial killer vigilante by night. Note also Mars on the MC ruling the Moon, and Mars and Neptune conjunct their ruler Jupiter (final dispositor of the chart) on the MC. Jupiter thus particularly exaggerates Mars and Neptune, hence all the blood and gore and all the deception about Dexter's true character (which gives the show its kick).

Hall's ex-wife, Jennifer Carpenter, plays Dexter's adoptive sister, Debra Morgan, in the TV series. Carpenter's Sun-Neptune conjuncts Hall's MC-Venus. Hall's 8th-house Uranus conjuncts Carpenter's Ascendant. And Carpenter, who plays a rookie-cum-senior-detective on Dexter, has Pluto rising in her chart (see her chart here).

WIKIPEDIA BLURB

Hall stars in and co-produces the Showtime television series Dexter, in which he plays the eponymous character, a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who moonlights as a vigilante serial killer. The series premiered on October 1, 2006 and its eighth and final season has begun on June 30, 2013. For his work on Dexter, Hall was nominated for five more Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. The show itself was also nominated for a 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Emmy in the Drama Series category. He won the 2007 Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement in Drama. Hall was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Drama in 2007, and again in 2008, finally winning the award at the 67th Golden Globe Awards in 2010. Also in 2010, he won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. Season 6 premiered on October 2, 2011. Michael C. Hall was nominated for Best Leading Actor in a Drama series at the 2011 Emmy Awards, but did not win the category. Hall was negotiating his contract along with Showtime to raise his salary for the seventh season. On November 18, 2011, it was announced that Dexter had been renewed for a seventh season which concluded December 2012, and the show was renewed for an eighth season to air June 30, 2013. After months of rumors, on April 18, 2013, Showtime announced via social media that season eight would be the final season of Dexter.

Philip Clairmont, 1949–1984 (New Zealand painter)

* Philip Clairmont ― a Bohemian artist with Venus in the first degree of Scorpio ― painted intense images and eventually committed suicide.

Philip Clairmont was born in Nelson in 1949 and attended Nelson College from 1963 to 1966. He studied in Christchurch under Rudolf Gopas, graduating from the Canterbury School of Fine Arts in 1970. In 1973 he received a Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council grant, and by 1977 he was painting full time in his new home city of Auckland. Clairmont's work was informed by the works of Vincent van Gogh and Francis Bacon, and was also influenced by his close relationship with fellow artists Tony Fomison and Allen Maddox.

Clairmont's work is usually classed as expressionist or neo-expressionism, using strong colours and distorted forms, often with domestic interiors as subject matter. His early work tends to be focussed and detailed. During his final decade his work has a tendency to be looser and less intense.

Clairmont epitomised the stereotypical bohemian artist lifestyle, feeling that this form of life was necessary for him to regard himself as an authentic artist. Clairmont committed suicide in Auckland in 1984, at the age of 34.

A biography of Clairmont by Martin Edmond, The resurrection of Philip Clairmont (Auckland University Press, 1999), was a finalist in the 2000 Montana New Zealand Book Awards.

Read more from his Wikipedia biography.

HOROSCOPE NOTES

"Clairmont's work is usually classed as expressionist or neo-expressionism, using strong colours and distorted forms." Sounds like arty Venus in the first degree of intense Scorpio in the 12th House of distortion.

Duchenne de Boulogne, 1806-1875 (French neurologist, smile technician)

* Using electricity, neurologist Duchenne de Boulogne determined that "smiles resulting from true happiness not only utilize the muscles of the mouth but also those of the eyes" and such 'genuine' smiles are known today as 'Duchenne smiles' in honour of his discovery. Duchenne had electric Uranus rising in smiley Libra ruled by Venus in happy Leo.

Guillaume-Benjamin-Amand Duchenne (de Boulogne) (September 17, 1806 in Boulogne-sur-Mer – September 15, 1875 in Paris) was a French neurologist who revived Galvani's research and greatly advanced the science of electrophysiology. The era of modern neurology progressed from Duchenne's understanding of the conductivity of neural pathways, his revelations of the effect of lesions on these structures and his diagnostic innovations including deep tissue biopsy, nerve conduction tests (NCS), and clinical photography.

Neurology did not exist in France before Duchenne and although many medical historians regard Jean-Martin Charcot as the father of the discipline, Charcot owed much to Duchennne, often acknowledging him as, "mon maitre en neurologie" (my master in neurology). The American neurologist Dr. Joseph Collins (1866-1950) wrote that Duchenne found neurology, "a sprawling infant of unknown parentage which he succored to a lusty youth." His greatest contributions were made in the myopathies that came to immortalize his name, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Duchenne-Aran spinal muscular atrophy, Duchenne-Erb paralysis, Duchenne's disease (Tabes dorsalis), and Duchenne's paralysis (Progressive bulbar palsy). He was the first clinician to practise muscle biopsy, the harvesting of in vivo tissue samples with an invention he called, "l'emporte-pièce" (Duchenne's trocar). In 1855 he formalized the diagnostic principles of electrophysiology and introduced electrotherapy in a textbook titled, De l'electrisation localisée et de son application à la physiologie, à la pathologie et à la thérapeutique. A companion atlas to this work titled, Album de photographies pathologiques, was the first neurology text illustrated by photographs. Duchenne's monograph, Mécanisme de la physionomie humaine – also illustrated prominently by his photographs – was the first study on the physiology of emotion and was seminal to Darwin's later work.

HOROSCOPE NOTES

Duchenne had Uranus (planet of electricity) rising in smiley Libra, ruled by Venus in happy Leo: He "formalized the diagnostic principles of electrophysiology and introduced electrotherapy in a textbook" and "By electricity he also determined that smiles resulting from true happiness not only utilize the muscles of the mouth but also those of the eyes. Such 'genuine' smiles are known as Duchenne smiles in his honor."

Georgette Heyer (New Astrology data and chart)

* Jennifer Kloester's new biography of Georgette Heyer includes Heyer's time of birth.

Georgette Heyer (16 August 1902 – 4 July 1974) was a British historical romance and detective fiction novelist. Her writing career began in 1921, when she turned a story for her younger brother into the novel The Black Moth. In 1925 Heyer married George Ronald Rougier, a mining engineer. The couple spent several years living in Tanganyika and Macedonia before returning to England in 1929.

Read more from Heyer's Wikipedia biography.

HOROSCOPE NOTES

Most popular as a romance novelist, Heyer had Libra rising, ruled by Eris in romantic Pisces. With Eris in the 6th House, "some critics thought [her] novels were too detailed, [while] others considered the level of detail [in her work] to be Heyer's greatest asset" (Georgette Heyer, Wikipedia). Relationship asteroid, Juno, rises toward the end of the romantic 12th House in the Gemini (writing) decan of Libra.

Heyer has Mars in the 10th House conjunct her MC indicating a knack for self-promotion, however the Moon and its ruler Saturn in Capricorn in the family-oriented 4th house in opposition to her Mars made her rather publicity-shy: "After her novel These Old Shades became popular despite its release during the General Strike, Heyer determined that publicity was not necessary for good sales. For the rest of her life, she refused to grant interviews, telling a friend: 'My private life concerns no one but myself and my family.'" (Georgette Heyer, Wikipedia). The Moon-Saturn conjunction also opposes her 10th-house Venus, ruler of her 8th House of privacy.

Furthermore, as one of the world's most reculsive bestselling authors, Heyer had Mercury unaspected in Leo except for a conjunction with the Sun which itself was overshadowed by an exact quincunx from Saturn.
