Guy Martin (British motorcycle racer, lorry mechanic, TV presenter)

* Guy Martin primarily competed in road racing events such as the Isle of Man TT, Ulster Grand Prix and North West 200. Widely regarded as an amiable and "colourful" character, Martin has at times found it difficult to concentrate on his racing, primarily as a consequence of the media attention he attracts, not least at the Isle of Man TT.

Martin has also courted a certain degree of controversy, both with race officials and team principals. Since 2011, Martin has also found success as the front man of several television programmes focusing on his passions of engineering, motor vehicles and speed.

He has Uranus unaspected in the last degree of Scorpio.

Arthur Tudor, Prince of Wales, 1486–1502 (English royal)

* Arthur Tudor was the first son of King Henry VII of England and Elizabeth of York. He died suddenly, at age fifteen. When Henry VII later died, Arthur's younger brother, Henry, became king as King Henry VIII.

The times of birth of Arthur and his sister, Margaret (see her chart), were recorded in the Beaufort Book of Hours, a family chronicle inherited by Henry VIII’s grandmother, Lady Margaret Beaufort. While the date of birth of the future Henry VIII was recorded in the book, his time of birth was not recorded, because he was the third born of Henry VII's children and thus he did not rank highly enough.

According to the Book, "in the morning afore one of the clock after midnight was born Prince Arthur at Winchester."

Cornélie Falcon, 1814–1897 (French soprano)

* Biographies give Cornélie Falcon's year of birth as 1812 or 1814, while her place of birth is stated as the town of Le Monastier sur Gazeille in the Haute-Loire département in south-central France. However, a simple check of the birth records shows that she was born at rue du Béthizy, n° 10, quartier Saint-Honoré in Paris in 1814. Her Gemini Ascendant was ruled by Mercury in Capricorn. Like the Goat that scales mountains, her voice could climb from low A-flat to high D.

WIKIPEDIA BLURB

Cornélie Falcon (28 January 1814 – 25 February 1897) was a French soprano who sang at the Opéra in Paris. Her greatest success was creating the role of Valentine in Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots. She possessed "a full, resonant voice" with a distinctive dark timbre and was an exceptional actress. Based on the roles written for her voice her vocal range spanned from low A-flat to high D, 2.5 octaves. She and the tenor Adolphe Nourrit are credited with being primarily responsible for raising artistic standards at the Opéra, and the roles in which she excelled came to be known as "falcon soprano" parts. She had an exceptionally short career, essentially ending about five years after her debut, when at the age of 23 she lost her voice during a performance of Niedermeyer's Stradella.

Gabrielle Renard, 1878–1959 (French nanny, artist's model)

* In this painting by Auguste Renoir, Gabrielle Renard plays with his son Jean. As both nanny and artist's model, Renard here embodies her Venus in Cancer - which rises in her chart and conjuncts the horizon of Jean Renoir's chart. Gabrielle and Jean not only shared the same Ascendant sign, they shared a lifelong bond. Her Moon is on his IC: their bond was nurtured by her loving influence over him. She took the young Jean to see his first movie. One day he would become an acclaimed filmmaker.

See their data and charts below.

WIKIPEDIA BLURB

Gabrielle Renard (August 1, 1878 – February 26, 1959) was a French woman who became an important member of the family of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, first becoming a nanny and subsequently, a frequent model for the artist. Upon her marriage in 1921 she became Gabrielle Renard-Slade.

Born in Essoyes in the Aube departement of France, she was a cousin of Aline Victorine Charigot Renoir, who had married the painter, Pierre-Auguste. The village was the birthplace of Aline also. At age sixteen, Gabrielle Renard moved to Montmartre to live and work as a nanny in her cousin's household, where the second of the three Renoir sons was about to be born. Renard became the subject of a number of Renoir's portraits, many of her with the children.

Gabrielle Renard developed a strong bond with the infant, Jean Renoir, that would last throughout their lives. She introduced him to the Guignol puppet shows that were held in the Montmartre. Gabrielle was fascinated by the new motion picture invention and when Jean Renoir was only a few years old, Gabrielle took him to see his first film. He became a renowned film maker.

Ben Webster, 1909-1973 (American musician)

* Ben Webster ― the influential American jazz tenor saxophonist nicknamed "Frog" ― had musical Neptune rising in the amphibious Scorpio decan of Cancer. Also known affectionately as "The Brute," he had the first degree of Aries on his MC plus a Sun-Saturn conjunction in Mars's sign.

WIKIPEDIA BIOGRAPHY

Benjamin Francis Webster (March 27, 1909 – September 20, 1973) was considered one of the three most important "swing tenors" along with Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young. Known affectionately as "The Brute", he had a tough, raspy, and brutal tone on stomps (with his own distinctive growls), yet on ballads he played with warmth and sentiment. Stylistically he was indebted to alto star Johnny Hodges, who, he said, taught him to play his instrument.

Samuel F. Pickering (American professor of English)

* Sam Pickering ― whose unconventional teaching style was one of the inspirations for the character of Mr. Keating, played by Robin Williams in the film Dead Poets Society ― has Uranus in the first degree of Gemini quincunx Williams' first-degree Scorpio Ascendant. Pickering's Uranus is retrograde: he has eschewed publicity raised by the film.

WIKIPEDIA BIOGRAPHY

Samuel F. Pickering (born September 30, 1941) is a professor of English at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. Pickering specializes in the familiar essay, children's literature, nature writers, and 18th and 19th century English literature. In addition to teaching, he has published many collections of non-fiction personal essays as well as over 200 articles.

One of Pickering's students at Montgomery Bell Academy, Tom Schulman, later wrote the script for the film Dead Poets Society, basing the pedagogy of Robin Williams' character very loosely on Pickering's eccentric style. Pickering has eschewed publicity raised by the film and has since regarded the unorthodoxy of his classroom behavior as more goalless than that depicted in Dead Poets Society, in which unorthodoxy is employed deliberately as a way to preach the values of non-conformity and carpe diem. Instead, Pickering has commented that "I did such things not so much to awaken students as entertain myself."

Read more from his Wikipedia biography.

HOROSCOPE NOTES

Pickering has the Moon in unconventional Aquarius (at the apex of a T-square) ruling and quincunx his Cancerian Ascendant from the cusp of the 8th: He "has often considered his teaching style purely purposeless and impulsive, and he criticizes those who have subsequently asked him about his philosophy on education, responding that people, regarding such large social questions, have trouble with 'the realization that mostly it's all meaningless. I don't know why people want answers'" Wikipedia.

Hélène Cixous (French feminist writer)

* Hélène Cixous turns 76 today (5 June 2013). Considered "one of the mothers of poststructuralist feminist theory," she has the Moon in the philosophical Sagittarian decan of Aries ruling her maternal/feminist Cancer Ascendant.

Hélène Cixous (born 5 June 1937) is a professor, French feminist writer, poet, playwright, philosopher, literary critic and rhetorician. She holds honorary degrees from Queen's University and the University of Alberta in Canada; University College Dublin in Ireland; the University of York and University College London in the UK; and Georgetown University, Northwestern University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the USA. In 2008 she was appointed as A.D. White Professor-at-Large at Cornell University until June 2014.

She has published widely, including twenty-three volumes of poems, six books of essays, five plays, and numerous influential articles.

Along with Luce Irigaray and Julia Kristeva, Cixous is considered one of the mothers of poststructuralist feminist theory. In the 1970s, Cixous began writing about the relationship between sexuality and language. Like other poststructuralist feminist theorists, Cixous believes that our sexuality is directly tied to how we communicate in society. In 1975, Cixous published her most influential article "Le rire de la méduse" ("The Laugh of the Medusa"), translated and released in English in 1976. She has published over 70 works; her fiction, dramatic writing and poetry, however, are not often read in English.
